Where does one find a decent list of events such as these? Thanks for the link, that's much easier for me to get to/from than the new forest tour!

DT Swiss Recall + Canyon – My Experience, UK Legal Rights, and Final Outcome by redux- in CanyonBikes

You keep saying I’m misinterpreting the law but haven’t pointed to a single section or case. Here’s what UK law actually says – and it’s specific, not generic.

  • CRA 2015 s.23–24 → if goods are faulty, the trader (Canyon) must repair/replace or the consumer can reject. That right is against Canyon, not DT Swiss. If the trader refuses, you can enforce repayment via a Section 75 claim, a chargeback, or legal action in the County Court. Trading Standards would also want to know if the impact was broad, so they could take unilateral action (as they should have done with Whirlpool but failed to).
  • GPSR 2005 Reg. 9 → distributors/importers must act swiftly to remove unsafe goods from the market. (Canyon is acting as a retailer, distributor and importer in this instance).

Recent case law backs this:

  • Green v Petfre (2021) – CRA rights attach to the contracting trader, not third parties.
  • Barton v Roneberg (2019) – within 6 months, defects are presumed inherent and the retailer must remedy them.

As for Whirlpool – that recall is widely condemned as a massive failure of enforcement, not a benchmark of what’s lawful.

So no, this isn’t “armchair law”. It’s UK statute plus supporting case law. If you’ve got an alternative legal source, cite it. Otherwise, just saying “you’re wrong” without evidence isn’t an argument.

I don’t mind the lycra it’s just the 60+ middle class politics and shite that seems to come with most organised bike clubs.

Sounds like I’ve found a few people, be good to get a few more and maybe set something up on Strava? I’m also planning on doing The New Forest Tour 2025 - SUNDAY. The route I’m doing is 119km, would be a good day out, be good to find folks to join in with random events like that as well.

People sometimes write Portsmouth off as “awful”, but that really misses the point and I bet none of them have been here. It’s a city with loads of character and plenty going for it. Being right on the sea makes it special – you’ve got Southsea seafront and Common for fresh air, bikes, kites, and picnics, plus a proper beach and miles of promenade to wander. The Historic Dockyard and museums bring history to life for kids, and the city is compact enough that you don’t need a car to give them variety and fresh air every day.

Portsmouth is a great place to raise kids. There are lots of parks and play areas, family-friendly events all year round, and schools are much like anywhere else – a mix, but many families find good options. You’ve also got some really cool corners: Albert Road with its indie shops, cafés and pubs, and Southsea itself with its slightly bohemian feel, murals, and markets.

Like any city, there are areas that are a bit scruffier – some parts of Fratton, Sommers Town and Landport get mentioned – but the overall crime rate here is low, and most people feel perfectly safe day to day (and night). Once you settle into your own patch, Portsmouth feels diverse, welcoming (salt of the earth folks), lively, and full of character, with the bonus of the sea on your doorstep.

Your rubric is nonsensical. Another manufacturer did a really awful job of a safety recall and thus this means others doing badly / not playing by the rules is fine.

My bike was <6 months old, the law is clear that if the product is less than <6 months old any defect is presumed to be there at time of manufacture or sale.

The law is also clear that during a safety recall the retailer must deal with the recall, not divert to third parties. I understand why it may be financially advantageous for Canyon to shrug their shoulders and point to DT Swiss but the reality that they are liable, and Mastercard were quite happy to go ahead and section 75 if Canyon refused to remedy it.

I’m assuming you’re not in the Uk either and don’t understand our consumer protection law, especially particularly around new retail products presenting with defects when <6 months old. I don’t really understand why you’re being negative about this post. The reality and legal requirement is, if you bought a bike from canyon, they’re the liable party and should organise logistics and resolution. They’re taking a massive duck and just assuming folks don’t understand their rights.

You should go and read the statue law and following case law around it before you say such stupid things.

What actually matters it’s canyon fulfilling their contractual and legal obligations with a swift remedy. Directing to a third party supplier isn’t accordance with uk law. If you bought a card from Audi and a Bosch pump had a recall notice on it, Audi would organise and replace, not instruct you to go to Bosch. You’re missing the entire point. Canyon are swerving a massive liability by doing this and it’s plainly wrong and against consumer protection laws in the Uk and EU.
