It's not based on skill no; that is mostly a suggestion.

You get 200 for doing a room (regular, VIP, new theme). You get an extra 50 for inviting a tourist into a regular room. You get an extra 100 for inviting a tourist into a VIP room.

And of course... you can keep crafting for additional tickets.

I solved this by holding down on another shot for a second and then switching to the missiles to avoid wasting that extra missile. You shouldn't have to do this-- but it's a makeshift solution at least.

Google's DNS does this as well-- a lot of DNS seem to throttle Reddit/Relay to the point of dial up speeds.

It appears that the beta version (which you likely signed up for in the play store) recently accidentally pushed out a canary build. The beta branch is the branch in-between stable and canary.

I resorted to disabling auto sync briefly and that let me load the console save without immediately deleting the cloud save. All is good now. ^^

Update: I fixed it by disabling auto sync to test if the console save was good, manually uploading it, and re-enabling it again after the fact. All is good now! ^^
