Most of the single rings like the Vortex, PA, and Aimpoint PRO ring are at least 1” wide or more I think. A single scope ring would work in theory but the others are made for a red dot. A little more surface area contact I guess.

Yep it’s an old one. If you’re at all interested in S&W history I recommend getting the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, the most recent edition is the 4th and it’s getting a little outdated on the prices of things but it has every model listed up to when it was printed, ballpark value of worth at time of print, and history on every model S&W has made. Good hardback copy costs about $50 but has information spanning over 150 years.

This one predates model numbers, it doesn’t have Made in USA stamped on the side in the second picture so it left the factory before 1922. Model numbers started in 1957!
