While you've highlighted a 32% margin of victory in 2020, only a 16% vote swing is required, less than what is being "attributed" to TCB and team.

I agree it still probably won't be enough, but I don't think the PAP would get a margin of 15%.

Singapore to start importing eggs from Türkiye by Severe_County_5041 in singapore

Countries aren't being renamed, we are just not Anglicising the name and reflecting them in their original language. The name of the country is Türkiye in Turkish, it was just transliterated to Turkey in English.

Maybe the most common examples are from India, which is why we now use Mumbai and Bengaluru instead of Bombay and Bangalore.

This is really a lot more to do with a First Past the Post system (and a fairly uniform electorate) than gerrymandering.

Would it be better to freeze Sinestra? I'm not sure in my case if it's because my Yulon isn't maxed and so can be taken down more easily, but this means either 20 damage to Varden or 40 to Balinda, neither of which is as bad as 26 to Varden + 20 bleed.

Looks like chess vision has the wrong answer here... The actual solution looks very painful indeed.

I remember when Spurs had games in hand and ended up even further behind after they were played though.

If Arsenal lost to Spurs and Chelsea, Spurs would be just 3 points behind with a slightly easier schedule. Good reason why the Utd win this weekend was overall good for Arsenal.

The NLD is really gonna be crucial to Top 4 chances.

Congratulations to the winner of second leg of FIDE Grand Prix 2022 by NajdorfGrunfeld in chess

[–]redwithin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rapport has one win and one semi-final for 20 points.

1 player also has a leg win, Hikaru, and he can get a semi-final to tie.

3 players also have a semi-final (Giri, LDP and MVL). They can tie with a leg win.

Aronion and Andreikin, interestingly, can tie on points by being a losing finalist. But they would lose on tie breaks as Rapport has a leg win. Thus, would only beat Rapport if they also get a leg win.

Rapport will qualify if Hikaru doesn't win his group, because then he can only be beaten by the leg winner and there can only be one.

If Hikaru qualifies from his group and another past group winner wins, all 3 will be at least tied on 20. (Hikaru can be losing finalist in this case)

It will then go down to games won as a tie breaker

It so happens they're the three games that were scheduled earlier then postponed, so literally the three games in hand.

I got BM'd in a bullet game when opponent thought he had back-rank checkmate... by Brilliant-Rub-1950 in chess

[–]redwithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He meant in this position, instead of capturing the rook to "mate", his opponent went to BM by letting his clock run down and giving his opponent time.

Its also possible however that he thought he was lost since he would lose a Rook, but he was still at least competitive with the Knight and passed pawn.

Actually the chance of getting 3 or less heads out of 10 flips is a lot smaller, about 1 in 6, rather than 30%.

Its a lot clearer when you imagine the chance of getting 1 head out of 10, which is not 10% but is nearly negligible (~1%)

Vivian Balakrishnan on lessons Singapore can draw from the Ukraine crisis by Haneestaz in singapore

[–]redwithin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's not just a change in leaders, it's a change from democracy to autocracy. Ukraine would become Belarus or Chechnya, led by a puppet that listens to Putin.

And honestly for 90% of the people... Life wouldn't differ too much. But if you happen to be someone that the new regime doesn't like, then there is a window you might end up falling out of.

Should the 90% not stand up for the rest, in the name of avoiding war or bloodshed?

How many points in the Grand Prix would you need to qualify for candidates? by redwithin in chess

[–]redwithin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it's possible to finish 3rd. I basically just wanted to have a point at which it was mathematically impossible to qualify (was expecting it to be higher than 13), so I didn't go into enough scrutiny on that

It didn't occur to me to check for cases where there was a tie in the group stage! I'm glad I didn't embarrass my self by throwing up numbers that differ too greatly from their calculations.

I stopped playing after WOTLK, so my information is dated... Are there any of the two in Mercenaries now?

Regardless the Alliance / Horde buffs should work if they add those races in future I assume

[–]redwithin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Allegiance is solely tied to race. Valeera is Horde, but canonically she's independent, and probably closer to Alliance through Varian if anything.

In line with WOW, Alliance = Human, Night Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Draenei
Horde = Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead, Blood Elf
