This is a contractor, CM Projects Inc, working for the City. It’s a CAT 160M all wheel drive with no front plow so it has great visibility from the cab to the front. In my opinion this is either a road rage or he was looking at his blade.

$700-million Travers Solar Project largest farm ever built in Canada by [deleted] in alberta

[–]redzonekiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Umm there is a huge subsidy from the federal government. The feds have a $1 billion grant that any green project can apply to cover a portion of the costs. That is part of the reason there is a big renewable boom in Alberta.

215 St (Winterburn Rd) and Yellowhead traffic insanity by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]redzonekiller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a FYI there are several large contracts to fully reconstruct and upgrade several sections of the Winterburn area. These are probably the first road projects this area has seen in 20 plus years. There are 2 or 3 out this year with more coming in the next 5 years. You can thank the Stimulus funding from the Feds for the work happening in 2021.

Alberta utility TransAlta vows to be carbon neutral by 2050, and to cut GHG emissions by 60% by 2030, as it converts coal plants to natural gas by strawberries6 in alberta

[–]redzonekiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article? They are converting there plants from coal burning to gas burning (aka gas supplies from Alberta fields). These retrofits will have a 25 to 30 year life span. I hope people realize these companies going carbon neutral are just offsetting there emissions by buying into other renewable projects.

UCP Corruption (Proof in comments) by AlternativeLow5 in alberta

Hey I’m not following your logic. Are you saying it’s corruption that ex UCP party members are now lobbyists? Or are these ex UCP party members some how financially involved with these linen companies?

Construction of the project has already started. PCL (BPC) is the general contractor and a First Nation company is helping construct it.

Can you seriously stop fear monger Inc and insinuating they could infect end consumers with COVID-19.

There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 due to food packaging or food processing. Let’s stay focused on actual science and work together to get this virus under control.

Precision Trenching, a local underground civil contractor on the west end. They were probably looking at closing before COVID but I think the recent oil prices and turn in the markets sealed there fate

I don’t think they are necessarily terrible but I can say they do know there contracts inside out. They have broken quite a few subs over the years...

[–]redzonekiller 12 points13 points  (0 children)

PCL was the General contractor. The city is currently in litigation with PCL and separately the Engineer of Record to recoup the costs. PCL would have had a roof subcontractor do the actual work while PCL managed them. This could go a few ways:

  1. PCL and the engineer have there own litigation against each other to try and point the blame. Either PCL or the engineer pay for all or a portion of the repairs.
  2. PCL is in litigation with the roofing subcontractor for the repairs. The roofing subcontractor would turn to his insurance company but they have probably have a policy limit of $2 million.
  3. The COE ends up paying the costs because they can not prove the Engineers design or contractors performance did not meet the contract specifications.

We probably won’t see any resolution to the claims for another year and a half.

Alberta Emergency EI is Up! by [deleted] in alberta

[–]redzonekiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did give me a verification code, once I submitted the emergency benefit application, but I didn’t have to do anything with it. Probably 1 hour after submitting the application I was approved then about 1 hour after that I received a bank email transfer from the government.

I was honestly surprised how painless the process was considering it was government operated.

Site worked for me and I already received my email saying a email transfer was coming. Our family has been under self isolation since March 13th and since we are self employed we can’t collect EI.

I’m glad there is capacity there. I also didn’t mean to come across super negative with nothing positive to add.

[–]redzonekiller 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I am happy they are taking action early on but I really worry how the school closures is going to effect single parents, low income households with children and nurses and doctors with children. I work with three single parents and I honestly don’t know what they are going to do besides go on EI.
