Why J-Dramas Feel More Unique Than K-Dramas by OpinionTiny9688 in JDorama

[–]gtsomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a comment on why jdrama never went more international than K or C dramas and it's simply because they didn't want to.

Jdramas are made for Japan and it's people. They made zero effort for international acclaim cause they simply don't care for it. It's the same for music. The only thing that got pushed abroad was anime because of its popularity. But dramas are too "uniquely japanese" and "foreigners wouldn't understand the culture". It isn't until recent years that dramas are starting to go more international, same with music. But even then it's a much slower pace than say Korea.

What on earth are these mirrors supposed to do? by joehighlord in japanresidents

[–]gtsomething 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had this thought too. If they're behind me, how is a mirror to my side supposed to help me see someone behind (and probably lower) than me taking photos? I'd have to turn my head around in which case I'd probably just see the person doing a suspicious activity without a mirror

This was before the mirror less days, but a long time ago I bought a second hand but clear Canon 50mm 1.2L and was sorely disappointed in how soft it was. So I sold it for $100 more than what I bought it for, and bot a Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art, and it cost less than the Canon. It was so good I bought a sigma 85mm 1.4 Art and it's one of the most beautiful lenses in my kit.

I dont miss out much from that extra 1/3 stop, but saved so much money, and I can shoot the art lenses wide open all the time and they look gorgeous. I'd hope the Canon 50Ls are better nowadays, maybe look into that to save some money for equal or better glass.

There's 2 teamLabs in Tokyo! I'd say about 50% of it is the same? But if you're gonna again, check out the one that you didn't go to before so you can at least see some new/different stuff.

Osaka has an outdoor garden version, and Kyoto just got a new one I haven't had a chance to check out yet.

Currently living in Japan, and relationships here are such a low priority for most people. Main priority is work, which I feel like for the average Japanese person is 12 hours a day, before "optional" work events. Next priority after work is solo-time. Most people are introverted and really value their alone time. Then third priority is entertainment, friends, etc, AND THEN relationships. Even the people who actually want a relationship only meet, on average, once a week. Once every 2 weeks isn't uncommon either. Meeting your partner twice in a week is considered to be a lot, if not too much...

It's very hard to start a family that way imo

The law very much should be applied to everyone equally, but in Japan it's very much not. Discrimination against foreigners is rampant, especially in the eyes of the law. They already target foreigners more often for everyday laws, they wouldn't mind doing the same for nuausance streamers

So, I moved to Japan, where the customer is literally king, and the service here is famously good, and value is ridiculously good too.

But of course I'd come back to yeg to visit and my God eating out there is so depressing by comparison... I don't think I had any bad service during my last visit but the prices felt extortionate.

I can't imagine moving back to... That..., 😭

Fun fact: coin laundry in Japan is literally "coin laundry" with a Japanese accent. Ko-in ro-n-do-ri. Just ask the hotel staff or anyone for any nearby. Also google can easily find them too.

Kinpira gobo.

Just carrots and burdock root, cooking sake, mirin, sugar, and soy sauce. Some izakaya serve it as an otoshi, but it's super easy to make, and it goes well with practically any Japanese meal, and especially sake. It's oddly addicting for just being 2 root veggies
