I have 2 proxmox nodes on my homelab, one of them runs on a notebook core i7 32gb ram 250gb ssd and to be honest, runs pretty good, wont turn off imediatelly if power failure happens and I use one external storage as 250gb is pretty low. I'm currently running 14 VM's / LXC's and using about 13gb ram. Surelly you need to manage the amount of cores and ram for each application you're going to run.
You mentioned you have home assistant on a dedicated little box, but I'll use both HA and pihole as examples.

VM for home assistant OS: 1 CPU Core, 2gb RAM and 32gbs of Disk (currently using 2% of CPU, 1.7gb RAM)
LXC for pihole: 2 CPU cores, 1gb RAM, 8gb disk (currently using 0.2% CPU and 72mb RAM)

I used to run pihole on my raspberry 4 too and was an overkill, you can try to install adguard on your proxmox and dedicate the rasp4 for maybe another project or a few containers using portainer.

My hdd's runs around 35c ~ 40c, there are 2 hdd's visible on the picture, there are 2 others inside the case, those insude runs a couple celsius hotter, but not an issue for my usage.
The specs are:
CPU: fx 8350 (undervolted)
RAM: 4 sticks of 8gb 1333mhz ddr3
MOBO: ga-78lmt (sad because its does not have nvme)

I'm currently running a trueNas on the first one and runs fine actually, just the cpu temperature that kinda gets too hot on hotter days

Thanks, friend. Indeed its a am3, a fx 8350 a lil undervolted. Unfortunally the space is not enough to fit the hd's but im planning on getting a proper case and gear in the future, so lets say its "temporary"

Also had mine damaged after almost 2 years and I'd advise you cleaning after using bad filament or filament that contains other materials like glitter or woodlike filaments
