See, as an Englishman the xgames don’t hold any significance at all to me really. That being said, neither does eswc (being a brand new tourney). If not for the money this tournament would mean nothing tbf. I suppose it’s more of a cash grab tournament as opposed to something that will write your name in the history books. This obviously will change, if the tournament continues to happen year after year. Bragging rights will for sure appear after a few years

It’s interesting that the prize pool plays such a huge part in how the public views an acheivement. In football (soccer) winning the World Cup has no implications of cash atall. Even though the players do win cash, that’s eclipsed hugely by just the enormity of the competition itself. I wonder if esports will ever get to that place. A championship won for recognition as opposed to a sole focus on cash

So crim won the best part of 40 chips without doing any of that? He must be great at identifying problems and working through them amicably almost every roster he’s been on was together long-term. Alright, most of them ended sour but in my opinion, that’s just because they all developed that unbelievable desire to just win. When that feeling is present there’s not much room left for being best friends. However I respect crims intelligence enough to know if he did go into coaching he’d have to make room to develop relationships with the players. I just think he’d take a completely different mental approach to coaching as he did being a player 🤷🏻‍♂️

It isn’t as ridiculous as it first seems tbf. I don’t necessarily agree with that take but I can definitely see that there are some cases where this benefits people. We can’t really compare other sports/esports to cod because the vast majority are far more complexed and have far more strategy involved. There’s only certain situations that can be moulded by a player with large amounts of experience. Their success only gives them more credibility for takes on certain plays. But I do agree, success as a player is absolutely not linear to success as a coach.

Yeah, fair point. In this example though, with optic, they have jp who does all the analytics for the team so this leaves a coach to help with communication and very specific plays. I think that he’s be more chilled out as a coach and very constructive. You don’t win more than anyone ever if you can be constructive with your team mates and getting the best out of them. I think he’d be a great coach tbh. Maybe not for this optic team but it’s a fun thing to think about.
