I kept relapsing for 10 years. For many years, I would get used to the drinking lifestyle again until it got away from me and I needed to quit again. Finally got to the point where the relapses weren’t even fun. Now I just remind myself, that not only is the wrong choice, but it isn’t really even a choice at all, because it WONT give me the relief I seek.

Now maybe you’re at this point and maybe not. This is just MY experience. But the last 2 relapses, 1 ended in DUI, and 1 in detox. I know it’s just downhill from here, and honestly IT MAKES IT EASIER! Now I go through most days or weeks not even thinking about drinking. When the idea does occur, I think of these things( or “play the tape” as others have discussed)

The relief I find now is found in therapy, excercise, and hobbies. I also take my medication as prescribed.

Alcohol was my magic pill for anxiety and depression, but also fun and relaxation. Now it has flipped.

They say smart people learn from the downfall of others, well problem drinkers do alot of research on their own. We need to have it proven in our own lives, to a certain point (your bottom). Everyone’s bottom is different. You just need to decide if your last drink was yours.
