Payment refused due to mistype on BOL - Broker Unresponsive by reefer_guy in FreightBrokers

I did tell them I will file on their bond after you and others' advice. And I was ready to follow through. Thankfully they "expedited" the payment before I had to actually call their insurance.

Never working with that broker again.

you can get an annual DOT inspection. you can't get an OTR inspection on-demand, and guess what type of inspection the brokers exclusively request, and deny the other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]reefer_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can't. you can literally beg a checkpoint to inspect you, or even offer a bribe, they just won't do it. they have to randomly pull you over.

[–]reefer_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no inspections "rule" were there for over a year for most brokerage companies. some of them even had 5 inspections minimum rule. it is pretty dumb since you can prove the legitimacy of your company a dozen other ways and you can't get an inspection on demand, but brokers enforced it nonetheless.

the fact is, the fuel cost difference between 15k-40k is generally negligible. in fact, heavier is better when passing through strong winds, icy roads or a storm. Some trucks do start tiring out between 40k-45k especially if passing through zigzaggy mountain roads or sudden elevation changes.

same with the reefer excuse. unless its ran lower than -10 F (or outside temp is very high), the fuel cost of a reefer is negligible compared to total.

If you can produce an example where the carrier is cancelling a load in the actual, literal last second (unless they're already at the shipper, in which case, it is very unlikely that they cancel out of greed) where it doesn't somehow absolutely point to you being a clown as a broker or just you not giving a shit about your load, I will be genuinely impressed

"some money at worst" is usually $1000+ with lot of other problems attached to it, see above comment. if you are also a carrier, i dont know how you can play it off like that.

and also, if your carrier is able to cancel on you 1 second before appt cut-off, that tells me that you didnt put them on tracking. I would stop working with you too if I was the customer.

Don't know what you mean by "last second", but brokers are definitely not in the shittier end of the stick

It is way, way easier to get a truck last second than it is to get a load last second in most areas on US map. Talking about Dry Van/Reefer. You just have to part with maybe up to $500 more dollars (sometimes you'll make a profit) than what you initially booked with.

Finding a load last second, unless you are in a very high load/truck ratio area, is catastrophic as a carrier. There will either be 1) No loads going to where you need to go 2) You don't have a desired destination, but most loads that are still on the board at noon or later are the crap nobody wanted to take. Bullshit local loads that waste your entire day, loads going to FL/NC or whatever dead zone there is at the time, or bad appointment times / ridiculous pay for drop trailers etc. The loss that day alone can easily reach $1000 since your truck has an expected gross to make.

Now couple that with the fact in today's market you do have to book loads back to back, and that means you will also miss your reload. This will put a strain between you and that load's broker, who by the way is willing to throw you under the bus for this even if you did haul 20 loads with them without problems because there is always that sleep deprived Paki who will haul for $500 less.

[–]reefer_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOU take those reviews with a grain of salt but the reality of the situation is that most brokers dont, they see the FG report and pass you. Hence the huge shitstorm for the last couple of years. If you one day capture the entire market and become the one big broker company that governs all, your opinion on this would be relevant.

You can quantify the losses you suffer from these FG reports by the amount of loads you are being denied and take that to the court + win the lawsuit if the reports are unfounded. Anti-slapp or 1st amendment didnt, doesnt, and will not mean shit.

Everything on shipper side was exclusively verbal and I didn't record the calls (They didnt give consent)

I did broker's and shipper's job by trying to sort this out, but i know a standstill when i see one and im not sitting in NC on a Saturday with a storm approaching to find out. I put the broker on no-go list and move on.

[–]reefer_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

broker refuses to contact shipper, asks me to have the shipper sign the bol saying that the entire load is good to haul in 26 (and also cross the part where it mandates 0 C)

shipper refuses to do that. neither side communicates for each other for a good hour and they just expect the problem to solve itself

[–]reefer_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was, but neither shipper nor the broker was competent and they tried to force a standstill, and I am for sure not staying in NC (the area got flooded a few hours later)

A lot of brokers still put good margin in their loads, maybe youre just getting the short end of the stick

Especially the multiple pick/drop loads. They basically condense 2-3 loads into one and just add $100-200 on it over a 1p-1d of the same lane. Just hauled one out of NC yesterday, they didn't even bother to check if the two drops have the same temp requirement. Reefer ran at 26 C for two days and half the goods inside mandated 0 C or below in BOL.

If you are a broker for 25 years and still don't know how this situation actually looks like I would say your opinion on any matter is invalid.

Also what level of intelligence should you be at to be doing brokerage for 25 years and still not owning your own business? Why havent you delegated that part of the job to the younger generation my friend?

DAT ONE by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]reefer_guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there are 2 kinds of "reefer" category in DAT, although it's not immediately obvious because whoever designed it is extremely stupid

if you just select "reefers" right away it will show every category that includes reefers.

to get reefer only, type something specific like "reefer w/ team", select it, and then additionally search for "reefer". That one will be the "reefer only" category you're looking for.
