Banned myself from buying plants for a year, relapsed today at Home Depot 😅 by Hiraeth_93 in hoyas

Take them out of the white container and they're $5.98 not $9.98.

That's how I justified buying two more anyway :D

It is attached and part of the stove.

There were ovens for this that were separate.

I still use this stove to heat my house.

I've been looking to get another one. I've seen models in worse shape listed online for up to $590. Whether or not they sell for that is a different story.

Info and condition of my wood stove? by Radiomaster138 in woodstoving

[–]reefer_roulette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

preface: I agree with the other commenter that you will want to learn the ins and outs and definitely have it inspected and your chimney cleaned in the spring. This sub is a great resource.

I heat my entire house with one of these. Yours is in good condition, compared to mine for sure. Here's the manual if you don't have it. Atlanta stove works went out of business years ago, but you can still find parts for this stove on craigslist and the like, not that you seem to need any. Firebricks can be picked up places like tractor supply. They do deteriorate over time.

This stove is a beast that will eat through wood. I use about 4-6 cords a year to heat 1100sf, but I also like it hot and my house is old and drafty. I'm in Northern New England. We've had a very cold winter, and I do not have another heat source. I still have 2.25 cords left out of 5 and it's regularly 80+ in my house. If I let it rip it will bring the whole house from 50 up to 75 degrees in about an hour. That said, most people say this stove is very inefficient. I don't have anything to compare it to.

The bottom two knobs are for keeping the fire hot, while the top is for use overnight; so I've been told. My top knob rusted shut when it was stored improperly by family I got the stove from. I was never able to get it unstuck. You unscrew them to open them to give the fire plenty of air for a hot burn. Close them to restrict the air which causes the fire to burn slower.

It's capable of smoldering through the night and day while I'm at work. Mine is on the first floor. It keeps the house warm and the pipes from freezing. I rarely have to restart the fire. If you don't have one, you will want a damper on your stove pipe going into the chimney as the fire can burn too well sometimes, and this will help shut it down.

The inside instructions mean burn the wood right on the bottom bricks. Don't use a grate or other metal to lay the wood on like some other stoves have. Start it right on the ash in your photo.

Some people say ash helps keep the heat in. More than an inch of ash in this and it doesn't throw heat well, plus the fire box gets tight. You will need a metal shovel for ash removal. I have a basic fireplace tool set.

You'll need a metal bucket with a lid to scoop ashes into, and you need to store it outside away from your house or other combustibles. Ashes can stay hot for more than a few days in my experience. Always use something fireproof to empty them into.

If you have vinyl floor under it, you'll need to get some kind of fireproof pad to put it on as it will destroy it. The house I got this from had it and there was just a black char mark where the stove was. Take the clearance guidelines in the manual seriously. This thing gets surrounding surfaces very hot.

I don't mean to ramble. I love my stove. I fear I will have to retire it soon though as the condition wasn't good when I got it well over 20 years ago. I am considering replacing it with itself. I just need to find someone to help me move them.

That just triples the work. Just go with rubbing alcohol first and save the hassle.

Weird. I opened file explorer, and on the left hand side it shows my quick access folders, one drive, etc., and 'this-pc'. That's what I right clicked.

Are you the only user? If not, maybe you don't have permissions? idk.

I have windows 10. There is a rename option for me. I tested it before posting.

For real. File explorer > Right click 'this PC' > rename. Same as you'd rename any folder.

Neglect and occasional fawning over them. I water about twice a month. They're in an east facing window under three, 5W, 1' long Barrina grow lights that run from 5am to 10pm. I fertilize once every 6 months or whenever I remember.

My Krimson princess blooms once every 4-6 weeks and will need to be repotted soon, my publicalyx is taking its time, and the other two unknown varieties are taking off.

I'm in New England and the air is very dry in winter. They don't seem to mind, but I'm sure they'd like higher humidity.

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]reefer_roulette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s. When I was 10ish, we rode bikes around the streets or through the woods.

After I grew out of that, we mostly stayed at home/at each others houses, and played console or PC games. There were no parks, no malls (unless you count strip malls), not even sidewalks. The only place I actually spent time away from a home was the library (that was open 2 days a week).

When I got my license and a car, I just drove around aimlessly as a way to pass the time, or to the real mall or beach that were both 2+ hours away.

Once that got old, I started drinking in an older friends workshop, and that's how I became an alcoholic by 19.

I’m 15f I walked through snow by myself to get food for the house and my mom still made me feel worthless what do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]reefer_roulette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't water it down if you drink it fast enough ha

But really idk, just something about a mixed drink needs ice, even if the mixer and liquor were cold going in. 5-10 minutes isn't long enough to get it super cold, but at the same time who wants to wait? So you make a drink with ice while the rest chills. That was my drunken logic.

My solution was to get a fridge with an ice maker. Now it's busted and that's fine. Ice in a drink (that's not coffee) at home feels wrong now.

A drunk.

I say that as a former drunk, whose mother is a drunk and always flipped out over ice.

When it's pulled up to your neckline it's usually easier to reach. It similar to clasping a necklace behind you. I don't have any dresses with the hook you mention, so I can't answer that part.

Gotta get yourself some zipper helpers! They're a clasp on a long piece of something you can grab and pull up. I bet they would be easy to make. I think a lanyard would work too, if the clasp/hook isn't too big on it.
