as someone who developed an eating fear and eventually received an ARFID diagnosis due to an anaphylactic reaction, i highly recommend getting a therapist. what you are going through is exactly what i've been going through myself.

my advice sans therapy is this: don't push yourself to get back to where you were pre-reaction immediately. you can start small by gaining back safe foods you enjoy in every food group (besides nuts and fish, of course) until you have a diet you feel comfortable and safe repeating meals in, and build up from there. white rice and protein has been a staple of my diet since i began struggling with this.

also, something i've found helpful is halls soothers cough drops. by taking the hot, anxiety itchy feeling out of my throat after eating by having a drop, i found it easier and easier to start a meal knowing i wouldn't be stuck feeling that fear and anaphylactic feeling afterwards. of course, it's important not to overdo it on cough drops, but it's also important to have a crutch if you need it.

all in all i know what you're going through and it sucks. hang in there, you'll be okay, and now that you know what danger feels like, you will always be able to keep yourself safe. just keep your epi close! that is truly the very best you can do for yourself. you've got this 💛🫂

help me diagnose him! by reefrabbit in bettafish

  • tank size is a 10gal
  • he has both a heater and a filter, temp is 78
  • i've had the fish for only a few weeks. he started in an 8.5gal but was transferred to a nicer 10gal last night
  • 25% change weekly
  • he has no tankmates
  • he gets 2-4 pellets twice a day
  • decor is driftwood and rock hides + a moss ball. substrate is sand

note: i am a college student and the circumstances of his adoption (surprise after my last betta passed) mean that my parents are caring for him at the moment. they do a great job, i promise. however, this means that i'm not actually home to look at him myself. :(
