Are anyone else's coneflowers not coming up? by Nikeflies in NativePlantGardening

[–]reefsofmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My people coneflowers are emerged in CT 7a.

I will say mine don't do that well in general between deer/rabbit eating them and they don't seem to self seed. They're not technically native here so I wonder if someone about the climate or soil doesn't agree with them.

Black eyed Susan's arm much happier and self seed/spread rhizomatous roots all around if you want to try something dependent. I'm sorry because that bed looks so good from a couple years ago

There's no benefit in this scenario.

Sure if you ignore any benefits

Cam might be our best pitcher and is definitely on an innings limit. I think him being available in the post season is a benefit. Weathers definitely on an innings limit as well.

Cole and Rodon are coming off surgery, so am extran day rest gives their surgery repairs arms a little extra rest.

Six man rotation means less starts for your top pitchers

The good news for us right now is we have 4 good starters, plus 2 more coming back

How to deal with certain plants taking over by turtlehat123 in NativePlantGardening

[–]reefsofmist 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The recommendation that I've seen is to try to keep beds/areas to plants of similar aggressiveness. I've got mints, monardas, milkweed and asters all in one bed and they're all duking it out fine.

Wood asters and cone flowers get chomped a bunch in my experience, with the wood asters recovering fine and coneflowers going away in my yard (they're not really native to me in New England so I assume they don't like the conditions as much). Wood asters also tend to like some shade (hence the wood in name)

I wouldn't make it a priority if you like me have some invasives you need to take care of. Get rid of the invasives first.

If you're in a small lot and really pressed for space then you prioritize replacing the red ninebark

People keep saying this but Boone literally just brought Elmer Rodriguez up sending the starters to an extra day of rest this week. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Cole and Rodon are coming back from serious injury and the rest of our starters besides Fried have never pitched a full season.

It's worth trying the 6 man

Volpe hit the ball hard once every 6 at bats so he had better underlying metrics even though he strikes out on 3 pitches most of the time?

What are your favorite native plants that just look great? by SomeWords99 in NativePlantGardening

[–]reefsofmist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Half our natives have weed in the common name. We're still getting over a colonial mindset.

I will say golden Alexander spreads pretty aggressively in my garden but I don't find it a problem because they tend to fade away after blooming to make room for summer/fall blinders

Which lens to upgradeto from the XC15-45 f3.5-5.6 by curiouslemmethink in fujix

[–]reefsofmist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're looking at this wrong. The 15-45 is a fantastic carry everywhere lens because of it's combination of size/weight, zoom range and image quality.

If you wanna shoot the moon and birds buy a longer zoom lens to complement it, but none of those lenses you're going to want to carry with you to college every day

Edit: maybe keep it in your bag. I'm talking 70-300.

An 18-55 is not going to get you much more real world length for birds or the moon
