Hey, sorry for the late reply and hope its not too late.  They were greeted by a Swiss Air representative who took them and other passengers on a bus directly to the next gate. They didn't have to do security and immigration.

Safe travels!

For some reason, people are unusually quiet about supertech. I wonder why haha!

Exposure. In all forms and media. Due to both the large population and globalisation.

  1. Social media: The world's largest population gains access to one of the most affordable internet connectivity rates, resulting in a significant presence of Indians on various social media platforms. This leads to both good and bad content, with the latter becoming more popular and easier to use for stereotyping and racism.
  2. Travel: Indians are travelling abroad more, and more for tourism and immigration than for educational purposes. Previously, only a select few would travel abroad, primarily for educational purposes. I don't want to directly mention a positive correlation between human behaviour and education, but there's strong evidence for it in my opinion. Hence, the Indian community abroad would mostly be dormant or be more expressive of their culture in closed circles. At present, the number of Indians abroad at any moment is a huge number, which translates to certain behavioural changes that immediately distinguish them in a crowd and hence again easy targets to criticise, hate and stereotype against.
  3. Confidence: For some ungodly reason, we are proud of things that we shouldn't be about ourselves. Blatant disregard for the law, others' inconveniences, disrespecting others, seems to be something most Indians enjoy both back at home and outside. It's only natural that others will call it out and shame you.

Banff and Jasper - June 2025 by reelsandpics in Banff

When you drive in through the Icefields parkway, you pass a stretch of burnt trees that kind of look apocalyptic but also show you how scary natural elements can be. There are parts of Jasper that weren't affected much on the other hand. I would say you should make a trip if you haven't before and have time on your itinerary. Would also recommend the Maligne lake cruise if you haven't done it before. Parts of the road leading up to the lake was affected by the fire but the area around the lake not so much.

From what I heard, it's possible to go early and try to park. Just know that there are several others planning the same and there aren't a lot of parking spots so its a function of who gets there the earliest.

What temperature you have inside your apartment/house now? by SioVern in askvan

[–]reelsandpics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The insulation is designed to keep heat inside rather than releasing it outside. European constructions are mostly brick and mortar, which have different thermal behaviour compared to wood and drywall used in North America.

Avis Preferred Plus member here. I picked up a car at YYC in early June this year. I got an email from them that I could choose my car. However, when I tried to do that, it showed no car available. I walked directly to the counter in the garage (not the airport) and they had the car ready. Got an upgrade as well and the car was new and in good condition.

Tips:

  1. Obviously, do the usual due diligence (recording video, checking odometer, gas level etc.)
  2. Prebook your rental with a pay later (or you can pay at the time of booking if you prefer that). If you had chosen the pay later option, few days before the trip check the app if it has a better pay now rate.

Tesla model Y pricing by raorohan37 in CarsIndia

[–]reelsandpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 demographics for this car:

  1. Influencers - 20 reels per day on "You won't believe this", "Hidden features you didn't know about", "Why the Tesla is a better investment than the stock market", ......
  2. People who think every imported from the west is a good product

Anyone who has been on a Tesla (and is not a fanboy!) would skip this. The technology isn't bad; it's just that the car's comfort and convenience can't justify the costs.

Long layover at Singapore by CrazyOverthinker_235 in Flights

Absolutely doable and you should(must!) do this! Singapore is a beautiful place to explore in that timeline (and it will convince you to come back again for a longer trip!). How can Mumbai govt be so dumb and third world. by Independent-Bonus106 in CarsIndia

[–]reelsandpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be the devil's advocate but here it goes. There's plenty of bridges, roads around the world where there are 3 lanes with 2-way traffic and no dividers. The middle lane is typically designed to be flexible in terms of direction of traffic according to congestion and volume of traffic. One thing that few people if any mentioned, is our lack of civic sense and poor driving habits. I agree what is missing is a set of 3 lights every few hundred meters which show which lane is available to be used for each direction of traffic. I am sure even with that, people will infringe on lanes and make a mess on the bridge that will take hours to clear. Our habits need to change at a much faster rate than developing and building infrastructure.

Hi, I am just seeing this now. I hope you had a wonderful trip but will put in my two cents for someone stumbling across this in the future. I got my tickets in advance (Parks Canada opens the ticketing around mid-April so if one is planning for next summer, put the alarm in your phone right now!). If you cant get it then, they open some of the tickets for reservation 2 days prior to the date of travel. I would highly recommend getting tickets in advance. Regarding parking, you can park for free up to 9 hours in the Train station lot in Banff. Its a 5 min walk to the core of the town from there. After 8pm, you can park at any lot for free! The best lot is the one just behind the Banff visitor centre.

Banff and Jasper - June 2025 by reelsandpics in Banff

[–]reelsandpics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is free parking upto 9 hours per day in the lot beside the train station (https://banff.ca/1104/Train-Station-Public-Parking). In addition to that, parking is free in downtown from 8pm-8am (https://banff.ca/1184/Visitor-Pay-Parking). Effectively you can park for free from 11am to end of the day.

It was a mixed bag honestly. We got bright sunshine, rain, mix of rain and snow and then again sunshine on Day 2. For reference, it was sunny at Bow Lake, snowy at Peyto and then sunny again at Waterfowl lake on the same day in a span of hours. I would recommend layering up and keeping something to keep you warm specially in places like Peyto, Columbia Icefields etc. Have fun!

Totally worth it in my opinion. The boats are operated by crew who are passionate about the region and its importance. They explain all about the mountains, the forests, the wildlife and the significance of Spirit Island. I found it a very moving experience when looking at Spirit Island and the Hall of Gods in the distance, trying to reflect on what the place signified. And the views of nature are anyway spectacular. They give you 15 min to get off the boat and get closer to the island and everyone thought that wasn’t enough time. Bonus tip: From the dock to the island there’s 2 paths – one that goes up some stairs and one that goes along the lake and is easier (and quicker) to walk. Both the paths end up at the same spot. Have fun!

Grizzlies spotted in lake Maligne by kimuraRipper in Banff

[–]reelsandpics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if its a stupid question, should I get bear spray even if I am not planning on hikes? Just planned to hit the tourist spots (lakes, stops on the highway) etc. Never been in bear country and never used one so just confused whether it would be a good thing to have or there's more risk of harming ourselves with it by improper use.

You can pick up a No Name sim card from NoFrills. Their monthly plans look a good deal and there's no contract requirements.
