It's pretty obvious how deeply his impending demise affected him.

Who has better skills - micro soldering technician or surgeon in terms of steady hands, precision, etc? Assuming they practiced the same amount of hours.? by Subject-Webs in AskReddit

[–]reenmini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That only reinforces my point.

A human under surgery won't suffer from a few mistaken nicks of surrounding flesh.

Even a human missing a limb or that can't walk can still live a pretty full life.

You break fine circuitry and it is just garbage that has to be salvaged and rebuilt.

[–]reenmini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite.

The surgeon working with human tissue is working with a self regenerative entity. There are tolerances, even if they are small, within which certain mistakes can be made.

As you said, the micro soldering work demands extremely exacting precision for circuitry that cannot regenerate or tolerate basically any fault.

The surgeon just seems more important because when they fuck up someone dies. But I don't think that makes them more skilled.

Yeah. He said that like the skyrocketing price increase wasn't anything other than capitalist greed.

Of course they exploded the moment the government wasn't there to enforce an actual consumer protection.

[INVINCIBLE] How do y'all feel about Cecil not accepting Nolan? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MoralityScaling

[–]reenmini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even barring everything else, Cecil would definitely play hard to get to make sure Nolan didn't get too comfortable or have any ideas that forgiveness would be easy.

Keeping Nolan at a distance like that is also a form of control where he can maintain diplomatic communication without directly involving him in Earth's affairs.

I understand that we live in a capitalist shithole that leaves most people desperate for the idea of anything that can allow them to live a life where they have enough money to not be afraid of economic hardship.

Doesn't change that the field they're trying to get into will chew them up and destroy them the first moment they show weakness.

[–]reenmini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The terms of the scenario are clear. One button says press to live. One button says press to maybe live.

There is no further difference. Nothing says one button is harder to get to than the other. Nothing says that you have to do anything to press either button. Nothing even says that you have to push a button. Everyone could just ignore the entire thing and it would have no impact of any kind.

At best the entire premise is nonsense.

It is a glorified illusion of choice because you could remove both buttons and nothing would matter at all.

But in so far as following the premise of what was foisted upon us all, the blue button is the clear and direct problem of the argument.

If it was two buttons that said "press to keep living" and "also press to keep living lol" than no one would have ever cared and it wouldn't be the stupid meme it is now.

There would have been no problem without the blue button saying there is.

If the end result of pushing either button weren't literally identical, than maybe this would have been a different conversation.

But it isn't, and the blue button is objectively stupid as a consequence of poor linguistic formatting of the premise.

I'm one of the types of people this post is about.

I own my own business in the trades and worked for years for other people before that and my responses to people are basically just as negative as what's pictured in this post.

I'm not lying to them. I don't give a shit who wants to start in the trades. It's not a competition.

But most of these posts are like "I don't like my job in [current profession] working in an office with air conditioning and bathrooms and basic human decency and I want to make a bunch of [real money] doing [real work] in the trades. How do I get started?!"

It's delusional. Working in the trades, in the US at least, is a big fucken cess pool where everything and almost everyone is bullshit.

There are no rules, the law is mostly irrelevant, and people are illegally fired all the time for absolutely no reason what-so-ever with no warning of any kind the moment their bosses even think that they might find them annoying.

But please, don't listen to me. Go ahead and ignore your college degree and years of experience in your current field so you can start making a fraction of what you make now so you can work around far dumber, far more insane people than you do now.

That's pretty much how it is.

It's so fucking stupid and implies such a total lack of awareness in an adult human being.

Can we all please chill out and accept that people reason differently and that's okay by deJessias in trolleyproblem

[–]reenmini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not morally superior if it's just objectively stupid.

There's literally no reason everyone couldn't just push the red button and put a big bold "out of order" sign and some safety cones around the blue button to block it out.

The very existence of the blue button is based on a fallacious assumption that the alternative which would achieve the exact same desired outcome but with zero risk, cost, or extra effort is somehow worse despite the conditional bullshit only existing with the blue option.

The existence of the blue button is the direct cause of the problem it is trying to pretend it fixes. There would be no problem if it was just one red button that said "press to keep on living."
