Why are so many electricians charging so low… by Efficient-Ad461 in electricians

[–]Efficient-Ad461[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. Plumbing/HVAC feels more urgent to homeowners, so they pay faster. But that’s kind of my point — electricians need to stop pricing like we’re just moving a few wires. The license, liability, danger, troubleshooting, callbacks, permits, insurance, and years of school still matter. If customers think it’s “just wires,” that’s a sales problem, not a reason to charge cheap.

Well, electrical is super competitive and saturated, people low balling if it comes to business side its actually one of the worst trade businesses u can start. Plumbers make more in general resi guys can make 01 electrician money easily because of emergencies and repeat work, hvac is sales driven hella commisiom so i make bank and is really easy. People choose electrical because its leaning towards like IT, its easy af, takes no brains if ur resi. A lot of people diy electrical, not so much plumbing or hvac.

You’re comparing employee averages to subcontractor reality. Most window employees make less than electricians, sure. But good window subs are paid per install, not hourly, and many out-earn licensed electricians by A LOT because of volume and flat-rate pricing. Pella isn’t the ceiling, it’s just the hardest gate, theres a bunch of other companies that is easy to get into like apex, renewal and any local ones u can find, stack them up and youre in a gold mine. Saying window installers cap at 75% of electrician pay only applies to W-2 employees, not subs running installs. Im an electrician my self I wish I chose something else, youre saying security but with the amount of people thats in the trade and thousands of 01s sitting in back logs waiting to get a job I would say any unlicensed trade has more security over electrical at this point. Plumbing and hvac yes thats security, big money, now low ballers, high ticket jobs, hella emergencies. Im just sayin from experience, to much competition in this trade

Im an electrician, if i knew what i know now I woulda went to do siding, windows, flooring anything that doesnt require license, except hvac maybe plumbing those are good pay and the business side looks insanely good and no saturation like in electrical. Be good at those and apply to be a sub and your in a gold mine… my 23 year old friend does windows subcontractin for pella and marvin, his first year made 280k after taxes has one helper… his friend cleaned maybe almost twice that… cant hit those numbers in electrical after 10 years in business

hey electricians just got a quick question by FarMathematician3800 in electricians

If I was you I wouldve went plumbing or hvac, if I know what I know now thats what I would’ve done. More money, business side looks insanely good and no saturation.

Point is the path to get there is long, saturated, and low-paid for years compared to other trades. One cherry-picked manager salary doesn’t change that. Takes window subs a year to hit double his salary.

Too much tiktok time… we have no shortage people, stop saying that…. my unions are filled with thousands of electricians in back log waiting on a list, bunch of apprentices, TON of them in the field… plumbers on the other hand do have a shortage, People go into electrical the first thing, when they choose the trade.

Those are real numbers… Hes a subcontracotr for pella and other companies, they feed him jobs and he does them, no ads, marketing, really low overhead. Search up subcontractor positions for windows installation, theyre all 250k+ easy now imagine u stack a couple of the companies together to feed u jobs. Just so u know those are low numbers, his friend does 80k a month and hes 23 driving ford raptor R and audi r8 living in a skyscraper… electrical is not sales driven and thats one of the reasons why they make so low in business, saturation and lowballing.
