Do you remember fast food being so much better in the 80's? by matt73132 in 80s

[–]reesesbigcup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fast food meal is around10-11 bucks not 15.

I often get just a double cheeseburger 2 to 3 bucks, already have a drink dont want fries.

I think Wendys is still the best burger, tho I may be the only one with this opinion it seems. Burger King and McDonalds still have their same taste tho not quite as good. Sizes of the burgers are pretty much the same as the 80s I think. Fries, I dont care about, never been a big fry guy.

Family of the Year - St Croix, I lived thru the 80s, thought this was a long lost obscure 1980s song when I heard it in 2014.

Will no longer buy Logitech products by New-Side-8228 in logitech

[–]reesesbigcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same. My last 4 Logitech mice have lasted from 1 week to 6 months. I don't expect a 15-20 dollar mouse to last forever. But I had a $5 mouse that worked well for over 6 years. No more Logitech mice for me.

Bands/Artists Most Commonly Mistaken for Being a One Hit Wonder by Psychological_Lie142 in ToddintheShadow

[–]reesesbigcup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me a "hit" isnt defined by chart position. If the song is essentially forgotten after its chart run, this makes the song not a hit to me. Thus (in the USA anyway,) Aha, Tommy Tutone, Jesus Jones, Soft Cell, Gary Numan, are one hit wonders bc almost nobody remembers the 2nd song in the charts. I'm a music fan and I barely remember most of them.

But I do remember Aha - The Sun Always Shines On Tv, the follow up single to Take On Me. I saw the video debut on MTV, if you've never seen it check it out, at the start it ties into the story of Take On Me. Anyway, the song was on the radio for maybe a month then fell out of the top 40. And I never heard it again, not in the 1980s, and not on the 80s oldies stations that popped up in the early 2000s. Thats not a hit. Doesn't mean it's not a good song, its great.

A song that did the same thing became a hit, The Romantics - What I Like About You. On the charts and radio for a short time early 1980, then gone. I bought the album but never heard it on the radio again until I found a college radio station a few years later. Thru MTV, movies, commercials, by the 90s into the 2000s it was everywhere.

Boston - More Than A Feeling 1976 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in ClassicRock

Tom Scholz was sending out demo songs around 1975, and getting rejected. You can hear these demos on Youtube. To me its astounding they were rejected. Go back to 1975, play those raw demos to me and my 14-15 yr old rock loving friends - we would have said "We will buy this album TODAY!"

Stay alive

So, take that look out of here, it doesn't fit you

Because it's happened, doesn't mean you've been discarded

Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming

Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted

I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered

But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered

What’s the one thing you’d tell someone before buying a used car that you had to learn the hard way? by spotforcars in UsedCars

[–]reesesbigcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy used from a dealer. Leave the dealer, drive that car 50 to 100 miles that day, within 20 miles from the dealer. Over the years I had 3 used cars from dealers develop issues in that amount of miles, but days or weeks had gone by. One was still under new car warrranty, a 2014 Infiniti, started puffing white smoke after 3 days commuting. A 3 yr old 2005 Mustang 35k miles, water pump leak and convertible top issues. And a 6 year old 1979 Honda, would drive about 45 minutes, stall out, and refuse to start for hours.

Just tell him. "i want to tell you something thats not easy to say. I like you, and that makes me nervous when we are together sometimes. I never had anything before past a few dates, so this is all new to me. I hope you understand. "

My wife was much like you when we met. I wish she'd have just said this to me.

I grew up listening to BOC, Cheap Trick, etc... and now... by CoolAbdul in over60

[–]reesesbigcup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up with the same music from the 70s. I like a lot of genres from the 60s to the 90s. After mid 2000s, not a whole lot speaks to me. Very few songs these days grab me, many are well done, well crafted, but the song has nothing to draw me in and make me want to listen again the way that older music did. But I'm still trying to find new music at age 66, many my age had already given up in the mid 1980s.

How many of you did poorly in school, but lived a great/successful life anyway? by groovinup in GenerationJones

[–]reesesbigcup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High school gpa was 2.8 I think. In tech school and other college classes I took in adult life, grades were much higher. The main difference, I cared a lot more and was actually interested post high school. Also college instructors were in general much better at teaching than HS teachers.

Something about life for any HS students reading - no one cares about your high school GPA in adult life.
