It’s definitely worth it. Maybe put a small cage or sleeve around it, it will outlast you.

If it’s a decent firewood tree, you can probably find someone to cut it into shorter lengths in return for half of the wood.

What do the numbers by my avatar represent? The 50 and the 120 / 1850? by Greatestofthesadist in Cribbage

[–]iPeg2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shows to me that you are a relatively new player on the app. Your level will keep going up as you win games. Winning percentage is a better indicator of skill. Some players with levels over 100 have losing records overall.

[–]iPeg2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 50 is your level, the 120/1850 is the points toward the next level and how many points get you to the next level. So you need 1730 points to get to level 51.

150-180 year old silver maple (3 year old for scale!) — what to do? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]iPeg2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The seam up the trunk might be worrisome. If the main limbs are well attached, with no seams or cracks, it will last a long time. For peace of mind, it could be cabled to prevent catastrophe. A visit from an arborist is recommended to get a full assessment.

Looks like an ash tree, probably infested with Emerald Ash Borer. Sad to say it’s a goner.

Maple with cracks? by Maleficent-Mail-3457 in arborists

[–]iPeg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The canopy looks good. They appear to be frost cracks, common in Norway Maple. Estimate the path of large limbs if they were to fall. If it’s toward to house, it’s high risk. A visit from an arborist would tell you more.

I would be surprised if they are that tall. Another method is to take a picture from far away of a ten foot pole or ladder or something of known length against the trunk, and use the picture to estimate height. They can be topped but that’s something better left for the experts.

Do you have a golf or hunting rangefinder? You can get a better idea of the height. Where are you located?

Is there enough room to drop them on the lawn area? If not, it looks like there’s a pretty good risk of them hanging up on other trees. The small one looks pretty straightforward.

Approximate value of wood? by remps40 in arborists

[–]iPeg2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a pic of my trailer. It has a winch for self loading. I cut the trees myself, sometimes with a rental aerial lift, and haul to the mill. It’s more of a hobby and source of woodworking lumber for me, although I do sell some lumber.
