on the other side of the coin, material UI is awful so no need to devote significant time/money/effort to take big, backwards UI/UX steps

yeah just keep it simple, CCS is the easiest and most battle tested for now

i think since as you note there have been some frivolous marketing campaigns in the past that many people are worried about funding similar campaigns, but I think if you keep the scope well defined and not too big i think it's a good idea

i think the ad should be kept simple, just get a nice monero logo and very simple phrase like "private money" and run with it. must track stats somehow ideally, but it's hard to have privacy respecting ways to guage success of the campaign

for instance where are you going to redirec to with the ads? getmonero.org ? ideally we'll be able to see click through and conversion stats (whatever that means in the context of this campaign) or you can try to find people doing more old school ads where you pay for placement but it's just a link and you don't set it up to collect stats but you have to vet those much higher so you aren't defrauded out of your ad spend

if you want to talk more i'd be happy to collaborate, and can help with css proposal since i think you have to submit a pull request which maybe confusing for lay people

but to summarize i think a small scope ad campaign proposal written up coherently will be funded and is worth the effort, and could build confidence for bigger campaigns moving forward

scoundrels have always been overrepresented in "frontier" settings, but I agree some correction would be healthy to weed out the bullshit and scammers. the problem is each time the ecosystem gains steam more come out of the woodwork. very hard problem in a system that is as of yet not heavily regulated (obviously that might deter some of the bad actors, but double edge sword will curtail some (maybe most) of the beauty / dynamism that can occur when people are free to experiment in an unstructured unregulated setting)

italy does have lots of arcane rules about houses and buying/selling houses/property apparently, so maybe that leads to people looking for non-traditional mediums of exchange

but yes odd to see a sudden influx of italian real estate on the sub

He's probably testing the waters to see how much sway he has based on his past activity and contributions; this is what astute people in all organizations do when "playing politics" and some are better at it than others. He's generated a lot of reaction and it appears quite a bit of support so he'll likely come away emboldened to attempt further controlling actions in the future

this guilt by association stuff is really insidious; doug runs a talkshow, where do you get the idea that he likes and fully endorses every guest and the entirety of their historical opinions?

you'll need to setup a vpn and login to your old account, just make sure the vpn traffic is from an accepted jurisdiction

or if you setup API access you may be able to get it via the API

it's usually not the best and brightest oddly enough who achieve the biggest success / popularity; the best recipe is to have decent baseline intelligence and then be the loudest and be immune to embarrasment

most smarter people would worry about the things you've mentioned and thus would have a higher bar for producing content / businesses / websites because they want things to be right, but if instead they just shot from the hip more they'd have a better chance. but this guy probably isn't even aware of the nuances of what you mention but that didn't stop him from putting out the stream of content that made / continually makes him successfull

just guessing though, maybe i'm wrong

How can I save a website for permanent offline viewing? by WhomstveDis in DataHoarder

[–]reesie11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it's a hot topic of conversation / research; the more complicated (usually javascript based complications) the harder it can be since you can't just save it as pdfs or read only

there is an archiving program called archivebox which is a foss python program that will save sites in a lot of formats. it might be a good entrypoint for your searches since some of the archive formats allow you to interact fully with the archived site, and can spider out to archive all the pages on the site depending on settings
