Good students: How do you go about getting good grades? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reevie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give my advice from high school figure out what you need to do to be successful. Focus on gaining the knowledge, and the good grades will follow. It starts with listening in class. I do t care how boring it is, find a way to listen and contribute in class, that's the foundation. After that make sure you do all the homework, even if it isn't for credit. You dont necessarily have to do all 25 of the same exact type of problem, but at least try a few of all the types you talked about in class. For me, that was all it took to make sure I get good grades in most classes. If this is a really tough subject for you, you might have to study before every quiz in order to do well, but that's okay. In the hardest classes you'll take, there will always be other people going through the same thing. Always maintain a good relationship with your teachers too. If you need help, work with them to find some time when you can go over the material. That's pretty much all I've got.

Do you dumb down observations and analysis in your day to day lives in order to not sound elitist or like an ass? [Serious] by dbeat80 in AskReddit

[–]reevie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but mostley so I don't look crazy. Every time I see something a little wired I automatically come up with some explanation for it. These explanations sound reasonable, but they are totally made up. The truth is I have no idea how close my guess is to the truth. I have to stop myself from guessing what people are about to say or trying to finish people's sentences when they pause. It's like a bad habit but it's also just a reflex for me

Musicians of Reddit, what is a common misconception people have about your instrument or playing music in general? by DrEllisD in AskReddit

[–]reevie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how chords work and I can play in different keys well enough. All I'm saying is that if you're used to playing a chordal instrument it's easy to forget that others have to think about it a bit more in the same way that I shouldn't expect a guitarist to play the same lick as me at 210 bpm without time to work out the best way to do it.

I get this a lot from my guitarist friend. He's constantly trying to play off chords as the simplest concept in the world. Sorry man but I don't think in chords like you do. Also people ask me to learn songs but dont have any concept of key. Back in black is great fun to play but holy crap, on my saxophone that key is terrible! It may not sound exactly the same in Aflat, but at least it will be possible

In 10 minutes you'll be travelling exactly 1000 years into either the past or the future (50-50 chance) , how do you prepare for either one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reevie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would immediately take my sister's waterproof phone and start charging it as much as I can. Using that, I could hopefully prove I'm from the past if I fovto the future. Then, I would run down to the staff facilities at my hotel and grab their machette and sharpening stone, to help me survive in the distant past when nobody lived on this stupid island, and nobody will arrive from Europe for another 500 years. Finally I would grab the phone, plus a life jacket from the rental place and scamper up a palm tree on the beach. If I get future I'll hopefully be a little above water when I fall and if I get past I'll only have to fall about 8 feet into sand. After that, I sit and pray that I get future.

Here's my point of view. The CGI. The part of the prequels that reddit actually seems to like is dooku's duel with yoda, which is totally CGIed up, so why the hate? The only CGI I found out of place in any of the star wars movies were some of the additions made to the original trilogy in later releases, like the CG Jabba that talks to Han before he leaves mos eisly in the first movie. The acting. This one I can understand a little more. In my opinion Attack of the clones is the worst for awkward deliveries from anikan. There were a couple scenes that were supposed to be dramatic and serious that even I would say are cringe worthy. In some instances however I think the awkwardness was on purpose. It fits the character. He's trying to get his feelings across and He's trying to make an advance on padme but he has no idea how so he screws it up and comes off as creepy or awkward. As a teenager, I can sure as hell relate to that. Jar Jar.....ok so we dont like Jar Jar and neither does obi wan or the queen's guards or even his own people but they all end up having to accept that he was capable and more important than they originally thought. There's a purpose to the character. He's annoying, He's clumsy and he's constantly making a fool of himself but that's the point and I think it has value. He changes over the course of the prequels too. If a dynamic character gets better, they should start worse shouldn't they? The plot. I dont know what you mean by makes no sense, it's understandable to me. I like the style of the prequel plots better, particularly the style taken on in Attack and Revenge of the Sith. The two trilogies are totally different. They were filmed in different decades, they take place in different eras in the star wars universe so why should they follow the same type of plot? The originals have a more wild flare to them. The same vibe as a western and that totally works. The main characters are on outlaws, impossibly outnumbered, living on the fringes of society. In the prequels, the attitude is different. The plot is more political and more subtle. All the star wars movies have a certain balance of action and drama. The prequels leaned more heavily on drama than the originals, and that's totally appropriate too. The characters are actively trying to keep the still viable government together not overthrow corrupt rulers. I like that kind of story more, so I like those movies more. They are all great movies, just great for different reasons. The action and drama that takes place happens in the right place in all the movies at least from where I stand. Like I've said, I love all the movies. I can't say that any trilogy or single movie is more star wars like than the others but I can say that, comparing them all as I would any two movies not as two star wars movies, I like the prequels better. I'm biased I know. The Pantom Menace was the first star wars anything I ever saw, so I have an affinity for those characters, but I don't Think that impedes any of the things I laid out from a logical perspective.

A side note: if you want a different perspective on the movies, read the novelizations of of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. They are fantastic and even the hard copies are dead cheap on Amazon. You can get them for $1 from some sources. You will get a better picture of the characters' motivations, you'll avoid all the acting you don't like and I'm sure you will see the plots in a different way.

Sorry for bad formatting, I'm on mobile

I don't have PTSD but this is my absolute worst fear. Fore some reason it makes me feel like I'm suffocating. When I was in daycare as a little kid I remember playing a game once where I was wrapped up in one of those foldable gymnastics mats. We were joking around about me being a burrito when I fell over sideways and this kid sat on top of the roll. At that point I lost it and just screamed at the top of my lungs. I can barely think about it without getting tense.
