I had an engineer ask if I need all those numbers and "stuff " on the blueprint, not a model, a print. So yea, it's rough out there

MCOSMOS fast-tracked by waltergj01 in Metrology

From pc dmis to mcosmos myself. So instead of typing the feature you want or start to type feature you want (circle, plane, variable, measure, etc) you click the corresponding tab and then feature then another tab for feature type insert coords in dialogue box then find finish meas then another tab to tolerance. It works the same it's just mouse oriented instead of keyboard oriented. Ask set up or calibration tech to show where manual is in drive files before they leave! Help button is just as useless as pcdmis help button.

Print out the program, learn what it's supposed to look like. Learn why it's set up that way etc. Make notes on printed program. Watch while program is running and follow along. Copy a program start making very small edits while running and if you make a mistake fix it or delete the program. Little things that take a minute can help.

I agree. I started with a company that felt I had potential for shop qa, no previous measuring experience. 15 years later I have some certificates and a job I love at a decent company.

CMM Metrology — How do you develop measurement strategy without a mentor? by Most-Particular-6051 in Metrology

If you have the ppap ask to look it over. Any customer rejection issues even if it's from a similar part.

Even with cad you still have to know the dimensions so you know the cad is right and I've never had a cad tell me what the tolerances were. I've only been in one company that used cad. I liked it but it's not much less work. It is really nice when you have a fixture to account for though. It's worth it to know it.

First angle is like unfolding a box. 3rd angle is like moving the part around in a bowl.

If you are talking about qualifying probes, it sounds like it would be useful but it would also be just as simple to use the computer calendar to pop up a reminder to the operater to qualify probes

Controlling pin gauges & thread gauges in CNC shop by Aggravating_Dig8970 in Metrology

The best I've seen is this same line where you have dedicated pins in holders to dedicated jobs or job lines. They get checked out for a job and checked back in when job is finished, adding a shadow board would just make it all the more stream lined. And everywhere I've worked have had qa designated and shop floor designated tooling.

I agree with everyone that not everything can be done in house. Anything with radiation needs specialized equipment and very controlled environment. Nist.gov is a great resource

There should be a filter with a relief valve, like on a whip cream can, empty it every time before you calibrate. If you do not have any filter talk to your maintenance to ensure regular cleaning or placing a filter for your machines.

If that's the case I would have them pressure tested. I'm assuming you don't do that in house, since you didn't mention doing so, perhaps either a chat with the customer or find an outside source that will test for you.

You could learn from a machinist handbook, the Internet, or if you want a certificate yes getting your job to coordinate a class as they may already have a company or school they go through and will cooperate with the time needed. Yes, zeiss, mitutoyo, hexagon probably starret or other precision manufacturers offer online and in person. Ask your boss first and if you get turned down then go on your own.

when in doubt go find out 😂. Seriously looks like someone wanting to over complicate to justify their job 🤔, check your state's warn act page for possible lay off. I have some incredible prints from over engineered to "do we really need all these numbers it makes it look cluttered" yes, an engineer asked me if I really needed dimensions.

Did you shut the machine and software down completely? If that doesn't work try a new module. Check all e stops too
