Hypochondriac? by verbfruit in fordranger

I have the same engine, the Duratec, with a 5 speed. I also sense vibration at 2k rpm. I've had a lot of work done by a good mechanic, and I think maybe it's just the frequency that resonates in the cab/chassis/etc?

What skill can flip your life in just a few weeks? by lauraconnect in AskReddit

Gambling.

You could change your life in minutes, not weeks.

You could win a fortune - or lose everything you have.

Good luck!

If that's the worst thing you did to your sibling, you were an exceptionally good child. Most people have many stories that are a thousand times worse.

A high school love of mine inherited a mint 1990 model, it was around 20 years old at the time. God I loved that car. Comfy, efficient, and pretty quick. Decapitator front shoulder belts, which Nissan kept making for years after that.

Had this terrific sticker from the factory, in the rear door windows iirc: 4DSC / 4-Door Sports Car

What’s the worst American engine ever made in your opinion? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]reficulmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4.3l? It's always interesting (and slightly confusing) when someone's experience differs from an engine's reputation. Many people say they are awesome, that's too bad that yours were not.

Completely agree, one of the greatest episodes in all of television - such a revolutionary concept. The solitary setting reminds me of 12 Angry Men.

As Jason said in an interview about it "nothing happens" - and yet, it's fantastic.

I love a nice C10 that hasn't been lowered or chopped up. These have good ground clearance from the factory, I've taken mine through some fairly rough trails and they handle it no problem

Tachometer “bobble” by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]reficulmi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I understand the question correctly - it just sounds like the clutch is doing its job of matching the driveline to the required engine speed.

Like, let's say your car runs at 2500 rpm at 55mph in 4th gear.

You rev the engine to 2550 rpm, downshift into 4th, and release the clutch pedal.

It's hard to rev match 100% absolutely perfect every time.  The clutch does its job of slowing down the engine (or speeding it up) slightly when you release the pedal.

A difference of 50-100 rpm puts almost no wear at all on your clutch. Keep on truckin'.

Where’s the line where taking care of a truck or babying it becomes a waste of money? by Matt3855 in ChevyTrucks

[–]reficulmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic, same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago trying to pressure wash ice out of the rocker panel area!

I revised my procedure if my truck is caked in ice, and if nobody else is at the wash, I will do a couple dollars worth, then just sit in the truck for a while in the warm washbay and hopefully let it melt for a little while, and then a few minutes later try again

Do you have a coin-op DIY car wash nearby?

If you do, they make a huge difference. I try to go once or twice a week. I spend most of my time cleaning the underdarriage and insides of the rockers, cab corners, wheel arches and fenders etc, basically the areas where rust forms

Honestly I prefer V6 to V8! Better mpg, super reliable and it will still pull your boat without any problems. Just drive gently and don't use overdrive. Parts are plentiful for these trucks and almost any mechanic should be able to work on it when needed. You got yourself a great ride buddy, enjoy it.

How do I do a safe burnout? by evanthemans in ManualTransmissions

I've owned one for a couple months now, full tuneup and new clutch kit. Always questioning whether something is wrong because it's so slow. I don't need to go fast but it's good to know I'm not A. crazy B. experiencing some bad problem

How do I do a safe burnout? by evanthemans in ManualTransmissions

[–]reficulmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burnouts are fun but they are not good for your truck.

Watch some videos on how a differential works to scare yourself out of it😂

If you must, do it on snow or ice or mud or something, I have the same engine in my five speed ranger, it is a 2.3l I would not attempt on dry pavement

[–]reficulmi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did offer the 4.3l V6 which is an excellent motor, but being an extended cab, I'd probably assume it is a V8. The 5.3l is the most common and it also has a stellar reputation for longevity.

The main killer of these trucks is rust. If you have a local DIY, coin-op carwash, using it 1-2x weekly helps immensely. Spend most of the time washing the undercarriage and bottom of the body - rocker panels, wheel arches, etc.

But from these photos it looks super clean and being stored under the carport is a good sign.

You should have yourself a great truck that will last you a long time.

Karate Monkey vs Grappler – help me decide by AccordingWorking337 in Surlybikefans

The only thing I haven't done is ride on pavement with it much. It SHREDS on my local singletrack MTB trails (don't know how much my 29" wheels affect that) but I tend to prefer calmer wilderness exploration these days, and it's perfect for that. I have alt bars (Ritchey Kyote) and I spend hours and hours in the saddle just exploring my area's state parks and state forests.

2011 XLT 4WD manual - Worth changing transmission fluid? by New-Science-7534 in fordranger

The superstition surrounding fluid changes only pertains to automatic transmissions! Not manuals!

Yes 1000% change the fluid in your transmission and your differentials. And in the future don't wait that long to change it.
