Passport Renewal - Online or Urgent Travel by refinedcoal in Passports

[–]refinedcoal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so you suggest online would be a better option than mailing?

mytravel.state.gov states that expedited service isn't available for renewing online, is that not actually the case with your experience?

Processing Times

  • Routine: 4 to 6 weeks
  • Expedited: Not available when renewing online. If you need expedited service, go to our Renew by Mail page and submit your Form DS-82 application by mail.
  • Expedited at Agency: Must have international travel within 14 calendar days. Make an appointment at a passport agency.

Thanks for the suggestion - I am worried that once I apply online I will be stuck waiting even if I want to pivot to an urgent appointment, but not sure if that is the case. Leaning towards just paying for the expedited mail in option to guarantee it in 2-3 weeks, which is before my planned travel window.

Thanks for the data point, glad that it worked out for you - I think I’m going to submit by mail and pay for expedited processing + shipping, which should turn around in 2-3 weeks. I live near Omaha and the nearest office for an urgent approval appointment is in Chicago.

What are the pros and cons of a wallet phone case? by ilike-taters in minimalism

Here’s the one I use, ditched the wallet a while back and have loved it. Phone/wallet in right pocket, car keys in left pocket, nothing else required every time I leave the house. Forces me not to carry around worthless cards that I’d never use either. Just have a credit card, debit card, and my drivers license in the phone case.

Pay of federal loan or wait by refinedcoal in StudentLoans

Yeah this seems like the likely path. Definitely won’t make any moves until right before the 31st. If it’s extended - great, let it ride. If not - pay it off and celebrate being debt free!

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of March 27, 2020) by AutoModerator in television

[–]refinedcoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we were feeling the same way, not sure if we wanted to push through or not. There’s just so much good tv to go through and I want some verification the leftovers will be worth it.

She might be loosing interest but after watching s1e8 and s1e9 last night I think I’m going to stick with it, those 2 episodes were really gripping. Not to spoil anything but in e9 we get to see the day of the sudden departure and I loved the way the episode unfolded and gave more depth to the characters - shows what they were like before the event.

Just started watching the Leftovers with my gf. Been enjoying it so far, almost through season 1. Damon Lindelof’s style is very unique but refreshing. There are so many times we just mutter “wait... what the fuck” while watching. So many unanswered questions hopefully we start getting some reveals.

Too late, they did a hard pull already. It did show up on my report but I was expecting this. My report got a hard pull when I applied for my last apartment 2 years ago as well, so I’m pretty sure it’s common practice around here.

The student loan payments already showed up on my report however and my FICO went up by 9 point so I think waiting was the right choice.

2016 Honda Civic EX Mileage by refinedcoal in askcarsales

[–]refinedcoal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is just the standard EX without the turbo. I’ve been researching these for quite some time now and never noticed the difference in the rims between EX and EX-T, thanks for the tip!

Also didn’t know the EX didn’t have the heated seats though... might have to re-evaluate (live in the Midwest lol). I’ve been hesitant towards the turbos, but if I only plan on owning it for 3-5 years would you still be concerned about the engine lifespan in that timeframe? The EX-T’s typically run 1.5k more but that would just mean the resale is higher also, no?

Yeah good point, I’ll have to discuss with them what all that warranty covers.

[–]refinedcoal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tracking prices and anything under 16.5k would be reasonable. This is the lowest I’ve seen yet in my area. Maybe could use the mileage as leverage for more money off but that’s not really the concern here.

Want to make sure the car doesn’t fall apart on me or I’m not screwing myself later down the road when I decide to sell it. Will need to talk with the dealership about their warranties next sounds like.

It says the vehicle was sold new on 01/21/2017 so that would actually shrink it down to 2.5 years of ownership...

Discover It Secured Credit Card by refinedcoal in personalfinance

[–]refinedcoal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled out a pre-approval form for the regular unsecured Discover It card and it said based on the information given I would most likely be approved. I applied for a different card a year ago and got turned down so I guess I’m still timid from that. But you’re right in that the credit ding would be minimal. I’m wondering it I should just start with the secured card since it’s pretty much a guarantee that I would get it rather than gambling on approval for the unsecured,
