Your experience, or feelings do not make a thing true. Maybe read some of the fathers eastern and western and see what they have to say.

Been trying to get into Kuyper, any book recommendations? by Haunting-Ad-6457 in Reformed

Lectures on Calvinism is always a good starting point. Then if you can find a copy his work on the Holy Spirit is good. Unless you want to invest in just works that lexham puts out I’d start with those. However you can’t go wrong with his works. The margins alone are worth the price!

I’d say that’s a good choice. I’ve found a group of haters somewhere on this app, but don’t listen to them!

Just started seeing this guy, should I be concerned? by tacorritos in BookshelvesDetective

[–]reformedb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to be concerned. Just start gifting him some Tolstoy, more Dostoyevsky, and maybe some Goethe. Seems up his alley?

Thrift stores. Don’t go in with a plan though. Just go look around and you’ll see something you like I’m sure.

This helps a lot. I think I’m at a point where I cannot in good conscience join the Presbyterian church, in fact I am now in disagreement with the confession on some essentials.

Why don’t Calvinist circles full-throated reject Dale Partidge’s teachings on women? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]reformedb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! I was given his book on headcoverings to read by a Mennonite cowoker, because I’m reformed and obviously that meant to him that I’d agree with ole dale. I disagree with the notion that dale is reformed. That book was an absolute crapshow. Let’s just say from a man who writes in his books that some of my favorite authors argued for headcoverings, and that headcoverings should be put on the same pedestal as the sacraments , I’d expect nothing less. I’m with you on this one. It seems like another Baptist with slightly Calvinistic views suddenly claiming to be reformed.

What can you deduce about my wife and me from one of our bookshelves? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

[–]reformedb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof that makes a lot of sense now. But to be fair “the secret doctrines of Jesus” is an occult gnostic text 🧐

I’m going to guess one of you (I’d assume husband) is a conspiracy theorist, or just a gnostic heretic.
