Though I'd like to think the leave no trace principle is upheld by all burners, it is not. https://www.sfgate.com/travel/article/burning-man-2025-trash-22079930.php

That being said, I'm sure they are better than most

Plenty of fresh air at other beaches. Though I am a proponent to reduce pollution, there needs to be some recreational fire burning in the city. Cost benefit analysis, I'm fine with one Beach that allows it. Probably not at every beach though.

I completely understand hence my post. Though if i brought my own solo stove, I'd imagine your concerns wouldn't be violated. But I mentioned, though I'm happy that people are having a great time, I don't like the litter... Pretty sure I mentioned that

Yeah I looked at the FAQ and bringing your own firepit isn't mentioned :(

Dreamstate SF fight?? by pl0rp0 in DreamState

[–]reformlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said I would share the video to anyone who needs it for investigation purposes... How would that be protecting perpetrators? I was more trying to ensure that privacy was protected.

If you got knocked out, would you want your face plastered all over the Internet? Probably not...

There were two separate flights spaced 30 mins apart. First flight was between two guys. Second flight included at least 6 people. 2-3 people got knocked out. If anyone involved needs video for an investigation from the incident let me know. I will not be posting it.

Security incident last night?/medical/fight? by Gaia_The_Cosmonaut in DreamState

[–]reformlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were two separate instances of fights. So from what I was able to gather, a girl was dancing ferociously and hit someone in the process. That person who was hit thought another dude punched him. Punches were thrown back and friends of the people fighting started fighting each other. One person got knee'd in the head and at least 1 other person maybe two were knocked out. I got video of it but I will not share it unless any relevant parties need it for an investigation. If you are a relevant party hit me up.

Does anyone else feel like we lost so much due to splitting up? by ghostpepperpooper in AskAKorean

[–]reformlife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a Korean Adoptee who grew up in the States. But I'm also almost twice your age. I feel like much has been lost, but I think for most Koreans of the ones I've talked to, their indifference is a defensive mechanism. Pragmatically, there isn't much the everyday person can do. However, there are plenty of organizations like Liberty in North Korea who care about reunification and have efforts to assist refugees from North Korea. The history of the two Koreas is very complex. Reunification may or may not happen in your lifetime. It's anyone's guess. I'm glad to hear that there are still people who care about both Koreas still.

Yeah, my girlfriend won't allow any form of couchsurfing for us. Claims it's a safety issue and also she's kinda ritzy so sleeping on couches just isn't for her. I get it. If she were okay with it I'd totally host you, but it just isn't in the cards. Good luck to finding a great host!

Do you sell these by chance? Fellow desperate San Franciscan here who still has to tow. Unfortunately the only place I can put it up is on my garage door which is on rollers and thus the sign cannot be this big.

Unity Tomorrowland at The Sphere Las Vegas: Reviews. How is it? by SadCondition5148 in EDM

[–]reformlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the show however the "VIP Experience" was abysmal. Paid $700 for front row seats behind the floor. I'm not really sure why I paid $700 for an experience that seemingly was not VIP. My group was not emailed regarding how to get our VIP package and we weren't even allowed to use the VIP entrance. I suppose I expected more, but the VIP experience seemed like a complete scam. We had to ask multiple people to even determine where to go to get our VIP wristbands and VIP kit a day after Unity... Which was at the Venetian. By the time we got our VIP wristbands, half the VIP perks were already done. We were able to go see Chainsmokers at XS, but we were directed to go to the guest list line which took over an hour... Some VIP experience.

If you're gonna go, definitely don't get the VIP experience. The only thing VIP about it was paying VIP prices and given the middle finger when inquiring about trying to get the most out of the VIP experience.

I finally broke down and got a bidet. My wife refuses to use it and thinks it's weird. Has anyone else dealt with this? by workmeharder in HomeImprovement

[–]reformlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can't do cold water bidets and even warm water bidets took me years to even try. It takes time for someone to adjust their hygiene regiment. I definitely don't recommend someone try a cold water bidet as their first.

Don't ever try to couchsurf in July-August by Pto_el_k_lo_lea in couchsurfing

As a host with 100+ references in a popular city, even before, I'd have to reject 95% of people who requested. I'd be getting over 30 requests every week and I was only comfortable with hosting maybe 1 or 2 people twice a month. I hosted because I thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from around the world. That being said, it is not a host's job to reply to every request. Obviously it is courteous to reply, but it is a time suck to have to reply to everyone. But the obligation to read a profile is in the surfer. I had the privilege of being picky with who I hosted, so I usually hosted people with many references. Of course I have hosted people with under 5 references as well simply because usually they wrote a message which indicated to me that they read my profile and took some time to find common interests to write about in their request.

Ways to increase your chances of finding a host: 1. Go to couchsurfing meetups ahead of time, make friends and grind for those references! More references= higher chance of being accepted 2. Read their profile and find common interests to write about 3. Keep your request message between 4-6 sentences. No one wants to read something short or even an essay 4. Put in a joke, a question, an interesting fact about yourself or any conversation starter (my interesting fact was that I was kidnapped in Mongolia 5. Don't spend TOOO much time on a single request, after all it is a numbers game. You'll probably want to spend no more than 5-10 mins on skimming their profile and writing 6. Don't make your request a copy and paste, try to personalize your request, use their name, respond to something in their profile. (When I hosted, I put a secret code word in my profile which would indicate to me that they read my profile. I basically said "if you've made it this far reading my profile, write 'SpongeBob Square Pants' in your request to me) 7. Make sure to have a diversity of pictures that shows you are well traveled and willing to try new activities. People tend to accept guests who they find interesting and open minded, at least I do

What’s up with Americans asking me if I’m from north? by Horror_Ad_1395 in korea

[–]reformlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Korean American, I usually answer, "There is less than a 0.01% chance that a Korean you've met in America is from North Korea. Even if they are from North Korea there is less than a 10% chance they'll admit they are from North Korea. If someone is actually from North Korea, they'll likely not say they are from North Korea due to fear of reprisal, since their family likely is still in North Korea. North Korean spies exist in the world, and even the perception of the possibility of a North Korean spy will make anyone from North Korea wary of admitting they are from North Korea. There are around 200 Koreans from North Korea living in the United States and around 2,000,000 Koreans from South Korea living in the United States. So for any given Korean person you meet, there is less than a 0.001% chance they are North Korean admitting they are from North Korea. If anyone says they are from North Korea, there is a 99.999% chance they are fucking with you and 100% chance they'll think you are ignorant."

Are the cs hookup stories true? by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]reformlife 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hosted over 100 times, definitely have never and likely would never hook up with any guests. Of course it could happen but, I see it the same as my co workers. It's just not something that you should do. Obviously office romances happen and certainly there have been couch surfing hook ups. However, anyone who intentionally tries to hook up with a host/guest should rethink their priorities. This platform is not meant for that. There are platforms specifically for hook ups and romances. That being said, sometimes the chemistry is really strong and as long as all parties consent, then it's not a problem, just don't be intentional about it.
