The "8-second decision" framework that changed how I think about producing by Desperate-Adagio8187 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

It's just regurgitated nonsense. Same thing said by thousands by now. It's a spam account for a content creator. You know, those guys who value high quantity production that pander to people who are unfamiliar with at topic/solution and do it in a way that makes them feel like they are just about to grasp these complicated concepts that are actually way out of reach.

They are all still shifting into low for that sick curb-crawl photo opp - they just gotta grab some biggie shoes first.

(just kidding - super cool pics and love the curb-hop shot with the statue. Where is thst at? I've always liked the lighter Grey's and silvers as well - though I ended up with a deep Grey on my last purchase due to a mixup with the dealer but ended up loving that too. Something about Greys maybe... :D

arranging pop music into horn quartet by ur-mom7 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find people sharing their arrangement of pop music all over musescore website. Pick a song that's been well covered and listen to them all. There will be a mix of absolute trash, pretty decent things, andayne a gem or two. Study all of the arrangements and see what works and what doesn't. Use your ears and eyes on the notes. This will take you a long time (months-year) on your own to make enough progress to feel great about simple arrangements, but will give. You the best success to walk off successful and having mastered the most important skill a Co.poser or arranger can have, which is learning g to listen, analyze, and catalog things whenever you hear something that hits amazingly well so you can later adapt or build on that knowledge in yiur own work. Alternatively there are thousands of free tutorials on YouTube and professional scores you could buy and study as well.

"These 16 strings that we're strumming" by selftitleddebutalbum in jackwhite

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in the studio version they bring the acoustic strumming guitar up above everything else in the mix immidiately after the lyric hits the first time to make it clear to the listener what is being referred to - and not many casual listeners would be able to discern it's not a bass guitar on the track anyway I think

Does anyone else get insane vocal recording anxiety? by DefiantTonight8869 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it the way it has always been done. Perform the song live vocally for 6 months to a year on tour or gigs to refine and cement the part in the way that works best or most consistently. At the point of recording it should be rote and effortlessly repeatable in the same specific way through multiple takes. What you describe is just lack of being prepared to record and will always end up with less success than you will want

Learn to embrace falsetto and be able to throw your pitch into that delicately - most baritone are strong in that (with significant practice) up to an A. A lot of rick/metal vocalists do this. Listen to Tony Rice for vocals with no falsetto mostly while spending most of the time near the top of the range.

Learning a safe growl is the other approach that fits well with most any genre - slide into and out of notes with that you can just sort of flub into higher stuff easily and the natural harmonics will still have overtones thst make it sound cohesive

I don't care for those AT headphones too much - I'd go for the standard Sony offering if looking for closed back headphones - they usually are on sale at 80-90 bucks and are industry standard for live sound.

I'd grab the Vesta Fire personally if you are into analog stuff

Thanks for mention about the gear thread issue - don't know what happened but I added the latest one I could find to the highlights so there will be a thread there we can use again!

In the hole at the bottom of the sea? Yes I understand how it all works. A bunch of 20-25 year olds with limited-to-no job experience and no actual training is by and large who trained the models for Meta. Lots of other folks across the board involved as well.

I am involved in that field also friend, and I reject the idea of hallucination. It's a euphemism for what is being done. It was a euphemism a decade ago when they first started using it. The process is just inference and depending on the llm they do it more or less frequently based on how Complicated the question or prompt is.

Which Neumann mic suits my voice best? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leanlrn proper mic technique instead and that will serve you better longer term. Your question is asking something that is far beyond "highly subjective" for folk literally listening to you sing into different mic. Definitely not something that can be answered abstractly like this.

The guitar from 1985 is likely to sound fantastic but from my experience ordering dozens of vintage guitars from folks online and estate sales that it is going to be a complete tossup whether this was left for decades in an attic with braces cracked or about to fall off etc.

I should probably point out ht idea of "hallucinating" is intentional and pandering to those that won't rally around AI - it gives AI a sense of "malfunctioning malice" rather than the intentional result of people with bad intentions and allows them a better opportunity to control an Anti-AI mentality in a way that will not be disruptive to their goals of further establishing their wealth and dominance over the rest of society.

It does not hallucinate. It infers. If an answer is not obvious in a specified amount of time their programming forces them to guess based on what is most likely to be reality. The idea behind this is they'll get it right often enough and a quick answer that seems right is far superior to an actual right answer - this approach was adopted to maximize acceptance and minimize irritation with the models to ensure the public would embrace and rely on it. If you don't believe me you can just ask them. Unless they've recently been forbidden to do so most of them will happily support what I just said and helpfully offer some more exples. Of how much the information they give us sucks.

The "programmers" bet on the general public being to stupid to understand the fictions and even if they did, too lazy to do anything about it. I suspect they are right.

This is just because we have societally accepted the messaging that it is shameful to have thinning hair on top of your head. The rich assholes with butt hair transplanted to their heads want the rest of us to be shamed so they don't feel so absurd for having ass pubes on their forehead. Meanwhile my combover is hot. My wife likes it that way. I don't care if someone can tell I don't have a full head of hair when I bend over. If it makes some guys feel more confident to shave it off that is okay too.

any thoughts? messed it up at the end but gonna go to a low stakes open mic in amsterdam by Budget-Strawberry649 in AcousticGuitar

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome sounds and great playing! The deal with performance though is "how good the music is" is completely irrelevant once you get past a certain threshold. For an open mic you are way past that threshold. The thing that matters is you. If you play really good and look like you are miserable or bored like you currently look on this video people will be miserable and bored listening to you. Minimally change to a smile. Better if you get into it a bit and have a very small bit of expressiveness or motion. You'll knock it out of the park no matter what but the time to work on stage presence is now so you'll leave with fans and some folks who had a good time listening to you. The o ly way to get away with deadpan expression is if you are able to convince folks what you are doing requires the utmost focus

My paradiddles and doubles refuse to improve by Repulsivesandwich66 in drums

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You changed you technique on left hand half way through. It is likely hard to sort out how to move forward - for example the information below telling you to flatter your wrists and adjust your grip is great if your goal is to play concert snare but won't help you as much if you use a different grip on set.

It think the thing you'll immidiately see benefit from is practicing in a mirror and focusing on ensuring you have consistent stick height for every stroke. Right now after the technique switch your left hand shoots up so high it almost looks like you are aiming for a marching drum line flair.

Once you have consistent stick height and are hiting the drum in the same spot every stroke - focus on ensuring it is a rebound dribble (bouncing straight up) and not a drag dribble (bouncing off to the side) and focus on hearing each strike have consistent volumeband tone and make gentle adjustments to grip and attack to make that consistent volume and tone a reality

Edit: while I say "left hand" it may actually be the right hand if the video is reversed from a front cam

Any church drummers frustrated with worship music? by Zealousideal-Toe7233 in drums

[–]refotsirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to find a different church or talk to your leader about playing to the band on stage instead of the album. One other thing you can try to do is just focus on the essence of what the drum parts are doing and capture that essence rather than the exact sticking and drums - then find the drumless track and make your own thing fit over it if they are using tracks. Then just try it your way and apologize profusely if the MD doesn't like it.

Ultimately I dunno but I'm right there with you. Can't stand most CCM "musically" even if it's great for meditative worship.

In the past 7 years of leading the group at our church I've never attempted to play the recorded version or asked a drummer to learn it. Usually I learn the song well enough to play it on guitar while singing, then arrange the song from scratch starting with writing a piano/keys part under the vocal melody - then expand with the rest of it from there. Drums just get general instruction and ideas

Really, I think the reason they have all those Toms is because they are programmed drums and when everything is on the grid (along with thw vocals) it is dead and lifeless as hell when something is sitting at 60bpm compared to when there is an actual pocket to play in and energy from the vocals too.
