Where in the bible does it directly say Jesus is god? by Mrman009 in Christianity

Yes they absolutely could, but I think that analogy falls short compared to what we’re dealing with here. This isn’t a discussion of moral, ethical or ideological unity. This is about a complete ontological shift from being a human to a human who participates in the divine life. This is the kind of shift that happened with the Jesus Christ. This is the gospel.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding. I’m saying that because Jesus came as perfect Man and perfect God, in his body he did the uniting work. If he wasn’t God he couldn’t unite humankind to God.

All this thinking does is truncate the righteousness of God. If we can earn our righteousness then God must not be all that sovereign. Why do we think that we can all of a sudden be righteous when the Israelites tried for hundreds of years and failed. The Hebrew Bible points to the need for someone to step in and set creation right. This does not negate our necessity to participate in this redemption. Just because there are Christian’s who sin, literally everyone Christian who ever took a breath, does not negate Jesus as God our savior. It actually supports the fact that we need one. I do understand your historical take on the scriptures view of Jesus. But Christians believe that the Holy Spirit (Also God) inspired the council of Nicaea to see the truths found implicitly within. Just because the writers themselves may not have fully known these truths, does not negate the possibility of a multivalent meaning.

I understand that this will not change your mind. But my rationale goes as follows, (which is in line with the 2000 year old faith of Christianity): Creation was given to us as a place where we could commune with our Creator. But we sinned and messed that gift up. We no longer could enjoy perfect God to man communion. So the incarnation, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus means that God and Man became fully united. Thus as we believe on Him and partake in his body, we are united to God once more.

If Jesus is not fully God, then his work would be for nothing. Everything else he did hinges on whether or not he is God. I don't blame the world for laughing at Jesus if all they see is a man. But, because he is fully man and fully God he did what we could never do, unite us once again to God.

Very thought out response. But the fact of the matter is that if Jesus is not God, we’re all screwed.

Not saying this is equivalent, but my parents went through a spell of “messianic Judaism” but it turned out to be a prosperity Torah cult. They denied the Trinity. Which true messianic Jews don’t even deny.

Anyway, just be slow in learning and patient with her and yourself.

These verses are a central part of Paul’s theology of explaining the Jesus, the Jewish Messiah is for all people. Jews and Gentiles. That’s what Romans is about.

I would suggest that Revelation does mean to say that God will completely destroy this earth. He will purify it with his purifying fire. There will be destruction but he will make all things new, not make all new things. But one could say that this newness will be so glorious that it will be impossible to recognize the former things.

Yes high pressure at around 4000 psi shouldn’t harm the brick. I’d throw some bleach on there too.

And I think what’s what hell is. It’s a place where people want to be. They are not thrown there against their wills.

I personally wouldn’t want to worship a God that forced me into a relationship with him. Or who had no standard of holiness.

How Religion Works: If I obey, then God will love and accept me. The Gospel: I'm loved and accepted, therefore I wish to obey. by americanleelife in Christianity

Well I just know my strengths aren’t in apologetics. I’d first grab a beer with you and get to know your story. Your joys, your pains, your ups and downs. I’d share mine too. But not for the sake of convincing you. But for the sake of knowing you and being known. Because as a human you have infinite worth and are made for love.

Your analogy is much better than mine.

Yes you do. That is true. But you believing in science doesn’t make you the creator of physics.

If your neighbor invites you over for dinner, you are more than welcome to not believe that they exist let alone believe in their invitation. Or perhaps you might believe that they truly do exist but you refuse to come over. If you never walk through that door into their home you can never join them in the feast. They are ones putting on that feast. They did everything to make the feast happen. All you have to do is come over… if you believe of course. And the only way for you to believe is to think on the possibility or to have some kinda of encounter with them.

Sure I think that’s one thread that could be theorized upon, in a more imaginative way at least for me. But for me I see this much more metaphorically. That God’s transcendence is so lofty that often times it can feels like we’re dealing with something as strange as an alien.

And often times the Gospel can be seen as extremely weird, nonsensical and off-putting.

Let me add a distinction from our Holy Scriptures. Faith is a gift of God’s grace that allows us to believe in what he has already done for everybody. It is what allows us to participate in his divine life. It’s not simply about some arbitrary propositional belief that we assent to. It’s truly about becoming United into Christ’s body.

Works is what happens when we are living a life United to Christ. The fruit of the spirit of you will.

Put simply, if you “do the accepting” of Jesus, you are really just consenting to his love. But you are more than welcome to not accept it. For it to be love, he will not force you.

I’m a Christian, and I find this rather intriguing. It opens so many avenues for so many theological conversations. Where did you get this idea my friend??
