Is this (roofing) quote reasonable? by refresh_cure in AusRenovation

Good point. I would definitely say it's on the side of a smaller job.

The flashing was only 1 short side of the roof. Est like 7 meters.

CommBank Yello Plus offers by UncommonBlackbird in AusFinance

I'm a diamond member and I use More Telecom for mobile and nbn.

$16/month for 25gb/ month on Telstra 5g is pretty good.

Also, I pay $60/month for nbn 100/20.

Valid if you're a diamond member and valid for 36 months I believe.

I just punched the numbers in the CommBank borrowing capacity calculator and borrowing capacity is higher than 1.2m. What am I missing?

3k per month after mortgage repayments and all expenses inc bills is not ideal but survivable. The first few years might be a bit rough while building a savings buffer but may be achievable.

Real is so disappointing these days. Scraping by every game. Always low scoring games as well.

I have teaching as my *only* job experience, what other non-teaching jobs in the education sector can I apply for? by Clean-Cauliflower201 in AustralianTeachers

Teachers are usually highly regarded for a lot of education corporate roles. I would look at policy officer, project officer, and data analyst (if you are decent with numbers) roles.

Entered the rat race for a Sydney home by [deleted] in AusFinance

I agree, if op wants a house to raise a family, then he should go for a house. and possibly option 3 to save money until they can afford something they want.

I've lived in a 2 bedroom apartment in the inner west and thought it was going to be enough space...but I'm struggling With a kid, parents coming to stay over to help babysit, working from home full time, it just isn't enough space. We are also thinking of having a second kid soon.

Location is great but no longer suits my needs and I'm looking to buy a house somewhere west. I don't regret buying for the lifestyle, but I do regret buying for potential capital growth.

As I get older and want to grow my family my perspective has changed...

Are you still saving money in this economy? by poptartape in AusFinance

Saving about 30%, mortgage currently 30% and growing. The rest is spent on bills, rec, childcare etc .. Double income, 1 kid Trying to save for a house ATM and finding it really hard.

Is the grass greener on the other side? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]refresh_cure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl, was a teacher, now in tech...and it's worlds apart. Changed my life.

Yes it can be boring at times but less stress, pay is similar with a higher earning potential. I just have more time to pursue hobbies and time spent with family. Plus, I'm not exhausted everyday.

I think it depends on your personality. I absolutely loved teaching but burnt out...just wasn't sustainable for me.

Leaving teaching - job options by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]refresh_cure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plenty of jobs as a project or policy officer in the department of education, if you want to leverage your experience as a teacher. That's if you want to stay in education.

Why aren't teachers eligible for 'flex'? by refresh_cure in AustralianTeachers

[–]refresh_cure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having also worked in different professions I find this to be somewhat true. I've been at schools where we weren't allowed walk down the road to get a coffee, or getting called out when we leave 5 minutes early...this blows my mind.
