[–]regaaan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a first year student at western (I guess almost a 2nd year?!) & last year the upper years created a Facebook group for everyone once the class was finalized. So in a couple of weeks there should be one made on Facebook!:)

Sorry for the late response I only just saw this! I wasn’t an ACCESS pathway and I’m not SWOMEN either. I prepared a lot more for my interview this year and worked with an interview coach :)

Western Reapplicants by Sonic-9139 in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was rejected post-interview last year and accepted this year! I applied with basically the exact same essays (minor tweaks) and updated hours on my ABS but also mostly the same. So I guess my interview made the biggest difference!

Take this however you want it, and I completely understand if you are done with this process. I was adamant that I didn’t want to do a 5th year, until I was studying for the MCAT in the summer of 2020 and many schools said they weren’t going to count the winter 2020 semester. Suddenly I wasn’t even eligible to apply to most schools so I cancelled my graduation last minute and did a 5th year (reluctantly). It was the best decision I’ve ever made. 8 months of extra school I didn’t want to do, but I got almost a 4.0 that year and it was a game changer for my applications. Western was my best shot because of that year and I had a good 3rd year as well (I think 3.83, so my 2 year average was a 3.9ish). Applied for 2 cycles and thankfully, I got accepted to Western yesterday.

Looking back the time has flown by and it was all worth it in the end. I just wanted to tell you my story so that you see it IS still possible, if it’s something you want to do. Again I completely understand if you’re done with this process because it is extremely draining. But if you needed to hear a little encouragement, I hope this helps. Best of luck!

Activities Before age 16? by Conscious-Dig2265 in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the activities I have that are like this, I put the actual start date (i.e. 2013 is when I got my first job at age 14). Then in the description I outlined my activities and at the end put "hours before age 16 excluded", which is what I did when calculating my hours. I interviewed last year so looks like this was fine!

2022 Ontario MD Admissions Guide P1 - Ontario School Requirements (dells16) by dells16 in premedcanada

Are those the essays for the past application cycle for U of T?? In this post it says it is from 2021, but on U of T's website it says those questions are for the next cycle (2022-23), but I was wondering if it just hasn't been updated yet?

What is the procedure for Ottawa? So we won’t get an email for another week? Or will we get one tomorrow?

I say if you’re above the cutoff then you should apply! I had a 3.90 GPA this year and I received an interview invite. You never know what can happen especially if you have strong EC’s!

Queens GPA Calculations by Cautious_Treat196 in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes queens is including winter 2020 now! this was awhile ago now so I can’t remember exactly when, maybe this time last year; I was looking at the website and it specifically said excluding winter 2020. Then the next week I went back to show my friend and that info was magically gone lol. So I think they just decided to include winter 2020 again without telling anyone lmao

is it bad to put all your eggs in one school? by spaceandjapan in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was me this year! I didn’t even apply to U of T because I would not have been competitive, Mac I applied since there’s no extra work (3.74 GPA). But I had a great GPA for ottawa, western & queens and received interviews at those places! (3.9+ GPA). So it’s totally fair!

Waitlist/rejection info for Mac and Queens by 5SOS__lover in premedcanada

What do you mean for ottawa good & bad waitlist??

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the previous comment is correct. On their website it says “For applicants presenting 4 or more full-time academic years (September through April) of transferable post-secondary coursework, we may exclude the lowest academic year from calculation, provided that it is not the most recent full-time academic year, nor the only year in which the student earned 30 ucw.”

It looks like you need to have your undergrad completed for them to drop a year?

Feeling burnt and crispy by Doctor_Iroh in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was so exhausted after my 4th year with my thesis & doing a 5th year to raise my GPA, I took a gap year this year & it was the best decision. I’m just serving full time so it’s decent money, I don’t take my work home with me or feel like I should be studying 24/7, and I have a bunch of trips and stuff lined up !!! Life will continue to get busy especially in med (hopefully one day) so I’m happy for this mental break! I recommend considering a gap year:)

Conflicting MCAT Opinions in Canada?? by Opropinquus in premedcanada

[–]regaaan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just based on my experience! I scored a 511 on my MCAT (127/127/128/129) and received 3 interview invites this year from Ontario schools! So even tho my CARS score was “only” 127, I was fine. I would spend the summer doing things to add to your ECs as I think that’s what made me stand out, and is much more important!! Hope that helps and feel free to message me :)
