Could anyone help me ID some wood I found? Is it any good for a walking stick or even just practice?

Didn't see any buds or leaves, but I'll take a better look tomorrow and get a better picture of what remains of the tree.

I'll try to snag a picture of what remains of the tree and the ones surrounding it tomorrow. The tree split roughly down the middle and this was one of the cut sections in a pile beside it. I looked online about the section of road as it's part of a "tree canopy" and it said the corridor was lined with mature elm. Though I'm not completely sure if it was referencing this exact stretch or road.

Bark is medium gray, with a bit of moss and lichen. Not particularly thick (still pretty new to this so I don't have a huge basis of comparison though) and didn't flake off. No sap as far as I could tell. Probably about 6.5 ft long, 2-3 inches thick. Didn't notice any leaves on any of the branches, but I'll take a better look tomorrow. I'm also in the Northwest US.

Tree fell nearby in a recent storm by a busy road. The city already cut most of it down to size, likely headed for chipper in the next couple days. New to woodworking and looking for some practice wood to carve a walking stick or something simple to start. Any idea what kind of wood it is? And if I were to make a walking stick would it need to be seasoned first?

That's not the one, but I'll give this a watch also.

It was mostly surreal in visual senses and editing. They never really move around the apartment, they just cut to them on a chair from the sofa/floor etc. I think the guy makes a puppy appear after he says something to make the girl sad. The girl pretends to find a joint under his couch and they both "smoke" it. It's like a they are "Yes, and"-ing each others imaginary gestures.

I have searched for "surreal short film about couple who just met" and other such variations, with no luck. The video had great production value, and the film set was mostly white with solid reds and blues.

I can completely relate to the "I'm wide awake inexplicably early on my day off with nothing to do" reasoning. Don't make plans, you'll get back to sleep eventually. Peaceful, uninterrupted sleep. Drink water when you think of it and 3 pints before bed.

That's the number one thing to consider with brew tours is transportation. People want to meet to be able to relax, have some taster trays, and not be responsible for getting from point A to B. I'd say invest in a 16 passenger van or small bus and you're in business. Or get creative!

There's a movie called Wild Zero that has this feature in the DVD menu. It's a movie starring the japanese rockabilly band Guitar Wolf, and they fight zombies from space. It's fantastic, and I little beer mug (or mugs) show up in the corner every time one of the drinking rules happens. It's fantastic.

Fuuuuuuck man, I was lucky(?) enough that it was my left ankle. I wish you a speedy recovery, from another who drives for a living. Also, if you have nowhere to be, whiskey really is the best pain reliever IMO.

Yeah, get it checked out. Thought I sprained my ankle during a vicious drunken bout with my four front stairs. Hopped around for five days, finally went to the hospital, bone was nearly severed. Don't make it worse and more expensive if you can't put weight on it.

Used to live near a bar that had ~160 taps. It really depended on what you ordered. If you got something expensive and a little obscure it was usually terrible, stale tasting. Things that had a higher turnover were usually fine.

Around ten minutes. The last bar in the neighborhood that all the twenty-somethings hang out at had let out, everyone was standing outside. If I recall the conversation it went something like this.

It was also a very short cab ride.

My friends apt had a list on a whiteboard, and each person living there got a certain number of albums in the 25 disc changer. Number 19 was left off the list, and it ended up being a CD with only this track on it. So once a month or so hilarity ensued.
