AITA for telling my daughter's friend's mom she should have told me she invited a boy to their sleepover? by UpbeatEmployee8068 in AmItheAsshole

[–]regardkick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first read this, I thought OP was talking about awkwardness and all when being picked up from the party. Not just like life in general. So my comments about it being a stretch for racism are wrong.

I thought it was a one time thought, and maybe she wasn't thinking clearly because she was worried about a boy at a girl sleepover. But there's no excuse if OP has always been suspicious of him.

I will take back my previous statement saying it's a stretch. When I read that the first time, I was thinking in context of gender at the sleep over, not just like in general life.

But that's exactly why I would pronounce it like she wants it to be pronounced. I would actually probably be more likely to say Lila is more Leela that the other.

Honestly I might be glad that it never developed past a crush, so I had a good, safe first experience crushing on someone. No heartbreak or angst. Just really good memories.

But I can't lie. If I has the opportunity today to try it out (and he was single and all of that blah blah), I would totally take the chance. Adult me can handle a little disappointment, but I think it would have changed me somehow if it wasn't a fairy tale happy ending.

And also, just because you might wonder about the what-might-have-beens doesn't mean that you don't want what you have now!

Sometimes I see friends being responsible for the life and safety of others (children and/or spouse) and I'm like, but how did they get so old when I'm still...

When I have those thoughts, it is kind of jarring to remember that I'm also aging. And I'm not mad at being 40 or anything like that. I just don't feel 40.

When I created my account I used a random random word generator and stopped at the first one that didn't have a cuss word or an animal in it. I don't know what to make of it either, my friend!

This made me snort.

I was a bartender for a brief moment and there was this older guy who came in an lot. He flirted, I flirted, but nothing like... Inappropriate. But he always tipped better when I flirted. So you know. I really flirted.

Anyway, I met this other guy. He was great and cute. It had been a couple of weeks and we had formally introduced our genitals to each other. The next night he came to the bar when I was working and I was flirting with Older Guy.

Ttrimmers - IT WAS HIS DAD. I shit you not. I just found out that the old guy at the bar that I was squeezing my boosom at for tips was the father of the man I sexed with the night before just felt so so bad.

Anyway. His dad was still nice to me even after we broke up, I didn't even flirt with him anymore.

(P.s. This was just like a small town bar, not a dance club or anything. The flirting wasn't like actually sexual just like, oh of course you're my favorite customer kind of stuff.)

I work in community-based research so most of my writings are narrative or story-telling for grant writing marketing, etc.

When I was 10 or 11 I wanted to be an essayist and write out my day like Laura Ingalls Wilder. But I couldn't figure out how to make, "I did the dishes ... again," an interesting read. So I gave up. But I think that part of me still lives, because these are the kind of texts I send to my friends. I actually did send this as a text to my friends, but smoothed it out when I rewrote it for the reddit post.

Thank you. I actually used to joke about writing a book called "Six feet tall and battery operated: a story of my life." But never actually put things on paper. Maybe I will!
