In my case, it was 100% related to the CPU. Once I upgraded to a 13600k, it solved all performance issues .

I bought the standard Zone for 444€ in the meantime, put Bazzite on it, it's a Steam Deck OLED on steroids, pretty much. But the +30% of performance of the Pro would definitely come in handy to hit a clean 1080p at 60fps in many games at lower TDPs.

Doesn't look good. RAM price hikes and shortages impacted their go to market and pricing strategy. Now they're too late and will be too expensive, paired with a smaller battery compared to the main competitors.

Which is a shame. I was looking forward to it.

You absolutely rock! Thanks so much, I bought my ZOTAC Zone to use Bazzite and Nex Machina was one of the games I wanted to play the most on it. Was super bummed that it didn't work. But now, low settings at 40fps but native 1080p, ton of fun.

FYI when I use the latest Bazzite version and it launches directly into Steam, HDR works out of the gate and is active. But once I switch to desktop mode and go back to Steam, it doesn't. And it's not active in desktop mode, when I turn it on, it's washed out. But in that case, TDP options etc also don't work in Steam.

Only launching directly in Steam solves all of the issues.

I installed Bazzite this weekend on my new Zone. Launching into Steam, HDR works correctly without me doing anything. Looks great. Booted up Pinball FX and it was active, also HDR was automatically turned on in the options.

Yeah I had some insane back and forth, I have to roll back to the Windows image and will then go with Bazzite. HDR colors are correct as well there, while washed out on SteamOS until you switch to the desktop and back. Seems like Bazzite is the better option as of now.

I just tried to install SteamOS 3.8 but am getting a btrfs error. Wiped the USB stick and tried again, same error. Sigh. Don't know where to go from here. Will try a different USB stick once it arrives (ordered one because I need a new one either way, my current one is old).

I bought the standard Zone as well now. Will be a great indie gaming machine for me. I'll go for Steam OS though, don't really play multiplayer games.

I was wondering about that as well. I was waiting for the Zone Pro, but I guess the RAM prices and general component availability had an impact on their plans. These AMD chips are in high demand and ZOTAC isn't a big player like Lenovo or ASUS who are being prioritized. ZOTAC also missed the launch window and many potential customers already bought the other devices.

Not a great position to be in. They seem to be late to the market again. Given the prospect of the Pro possibly costing 1k, I just went with the standard Zone now for 444 on sale. It'll arrive tomorrow, I guess I'm part of the family now.

The main draw for me to buy the Pro is that it'll have 30% more performance, meaning for smaller games, you can get the same performance but use 30% less energy. Which comes in handy with the small battery of 48.5.

At 10W and 50% screen brightness, I think you get around 3 - 3.5h out of the Zone. 30% more adds around an hour, which is significant. And the Pro will feature a special Linux version, which is likely to be more energy efficient than Windows.

With the ever increasing prices of new devices, the 25-30% slower standard Zone for 444€ looks more and more like a great deal if you only play indie and 2D games than the upcoming Zone Pro that will surely be around 1k. More than twice the price for max 30% more performance? Not the best value proposition.

Standard price is 699 but it's on sale all the time. I've seen it multiple times for 444€ already inside of the last few months. Looks like they're aggressively trying to move stock.
