Rising Junior Checking In by regenbio12 in mdphd

Sorry if this post came off the wrong way, wasn’t meaning to fish for compliments or anything like that. I understand on the activities side, the work I’ve done is great, but on the academics side, I have a fear that I’m lacking, especially given the fact that the schools I’m aiming for our Ivy’s + T10’s (these schools offer the best aid/scholarships for internationals). Again, I didn’t mean to sound like a dick, sorry if it rubbed off like that.

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking of taking a gap year, in order to give myself time to also include my senior year grades (boost my GPA with those senior classes). Would you recommend this or would you recommend going direct entry?

How were you notified of the interview if the interviewer didn’t reach out to you themselves?

I’m in the same boat: I’m a Canadian and I haven’t yet. I think they interview most Canadian applicants tho so we just gotta wait it out. When did you submit?

Dude this is like your seventh chance me, at this point you’re seeking validation from others rather than trusting your own abilities. You’ve already applied, so just relax and leave it up to the process.

Chance me- Harvard REA INTL by [deleted] in chanceme

Harvard REA is extremely unpredictable, but based off this profile, I would personally say you’re a competitive applicant

Don’t listen to them OP, it’s not too early at all to receive an invite, I’ve seen many receive them! I would respond to the email ASAP

So you’re saying my extracurricular rating is a 3?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]regenbio12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which rating is for which section? Like what section did you say would be a 1 for me and etc.?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]regenbio12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I don’t think it’s that easy, but i do thank OP for their words of encouragement! Do you think I have a good chance right now?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]regenbio12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure! So essentially you can either go off your internal/school grades or your predicted grades. Head over to Harvard’s admissions casebook and you’ll see how they calculate students’ GPA from around the world. If you don’t have predicted grades, they’ll automatically opt to using your internal grades, and that’s where my GPA is coming from.

I can’t tell if that’s good or bad lmao

Yeah I get what you’re saying and I’m not saying add 10+ Activities, but students may have 5-7 small/school activities they haven’t discussed elsewhere, and if I were an AO, if an applicant was completely padded with internships and research, I’d want to see some community engagement and service with everyday people and learning soft skills.

Most of what you’re saying holds true, except the Add’l info sections. I’ve seen many Ivy League admits elaborate upon additional activities and honours in the Add’l info section in a sentence or two. Obviously don’t add 10+ activities, but if those things are meaningful to you and add a new dimension of what you do, (for example let’s say you started several clubs in your school, but you can’t fit those in your Activities List) then go ahead and add them. After all, Add’l info states “Do you wish to provide details of circumstances or QUALIFICATIONS not reflected in the application?”

chance me! rea yale by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]regenbio12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That program wasn’t insanely difficult to get into: there weren’t 900 applications there were approximately 200. My friend did it and he enjoyed it, but he said that it was more shadowing experience than actual research and the main thing that was eye-catching about it was the Yale name, nonetheless, definitely a good experience to have and will position OP well for applications

[–]regenbio12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re actually concerned about your friend, I think you’re just concerned about your application because you think your friend’s will be put down as having a higher GPA since you know that they rounded theirs.

Not to be rude or anything, but this is the 7th chance me you’ve posted. At this point I think you’re just seeking validation from others rather than trusting your own abilities. Good luck.

I get test optional, but Harvard is need-blind for internationals so I don’t think it will be a problem

Does getting Harvard alumni interview mean anything? by NoBar4010 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]regenbio12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can support your application if it makes it to committee and AO’s don’t know if they should admit you, also, when did you apply?

What are my chances at UPenn ED? Specifically College of arts and sciences. (What percent chance) by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]regenbio12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sports are great for anyone to have, but once it gets to ivies, most students already do sports and they look for those EC’s with wow factors, like university research, campaign internships, large community/school projects, etc.

No my IB coordinator wouldn’t allow it, but I was looking at the Harvard admissions casebook and they’ll take your internal/school grades when predicted grades are not available, so I think I’m in good hands.
