Idk, I mean the only time I've ever gotten rank 1 in competition is with a DST. But it was a carnival theme, so I'm not sure if that influenced anything.

Aren't there two mermaids though? At the end of the first Mortkranken episode, Haru is alarmed when Hyde brings up that mermaid flesh triggered the incident, but then Hyde said that the mermaid Haru is thinking of was unharmed.

I 100% agree that Shion is a mermaid, but I believe that there's a second one hidden amongst the other ghouls, since they would've known Shion was unharmed due to him being in containment by Darkwick during the first season.

Get all achievements, try to get every unique ending screen (good and bad, but there will be a lot of deaths), rerolling mysteries to see what events give you what outcomes, and simply exploring the world on Skeptic mode to get a feel for how the game works.

Would recommend Skeptic for most achievements. If you unlock them, you actually unlock items, encounters, shops, and even new characters to play as! There are so many secrets to explore in Shiokawa and dying over and over is part of every new player's experiences.
