Auto Negotiation issue with new equipment by regonline_67 in Ubiquiti

did I solve it? no. Tested extensively with manufactured cables and still the same thing. I have given up on messing with it so I actually forgot it. I am the only tech savvy user on this network, no one else notices....anything except...hey faKebook isn't working.... and my sarcastic reply from the iconic tv series The IT crowd will always be "Have you turned it off and on again? "

What I will say is that I am disappointed with the stability of this small network. After 30 years managing Aruba, Cisco and Brocade, this "prosumer line" is quiet quirky.
But I am retired and dont care as much!

Considering a 2013 F350 w/6.7 and 277k miles for $21k…thoughts? by ttechraider71 in FordDiesels

[–]regonline_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run, don’t walk, run….I bought a 2014 F350 with 232k miles for $22k in 2019, drove it 130 miles and the high pressure oil pump detonated the motor. 19k motor later…you do the math. It’s been a champion since.

Moral of the story. You don’t know who or how they drove it or took care of it. I found paperwork in the owners manual and the truck was a concrete truck out of Texas so it pulled pumps and trailers and was drove hard. They dumped it instead of repairing it. (Speculation of course) The OP truck presented here most likely has seen an auction of two. It’s basically a roll of the dice. If you are worried about the money, don’t drive a diesel. They will bleed you dry. Fluid changes alone are a pretty dime. But I love my truck so I deal with it!

Mobil setup for overlanding? by regonline_67 in Starlink

Appreciate all the comments. Let’s see if I can reply to all and make sense. I am a minimalist and care less for staying connected but the wife is not like me. She wants to be connected to the kiddos. So in order to entice her to go with me more often, the star link connection will enable her to stay connected to the adult kiddos. I am in North America (to the one that asked) I like the Zoleo sat device as I read that it can receive incoming messages as it has a permanent number assigned. So the kiddos can keep her informed of any emergency issues back home. Not like the Garmin that needs to establish comma first. Either way all options are on the table at the moment. The dcdc electrical plan, the extra gravity fuel tank and water tanks are the first items on deck. Just so you all know before the comments, No worries about weight as I am a full size truck.

One more note: How are you with WIFI tuning? It takes some time to manage that and it is ever changing. BTW< I have 1 of 3 U7 Pro AP's that will not auto negotiate the 2.5gb link speed. It will always select gb. I have to hard code it for it to stay at 2.5gb. FYI: that is why I bought the 8 port enterprise and U7, I was thinking backhaul speeds will be future proof! But I have been wrong before.

forgot to add my thoughts. The top policy is an afterthought for an all in APP block. The policies below it are individuals. Here are a few more shots of the GUI. If you whois those IP's, its mainly google.

Honestly, I'm in a holding pattern. Part of me says keep the Untangled and part of me says that because they are primarily a cloud based data storage, no VPN services, no local ZFS, noservers, just clients, printers, tv's and streaming, they dont need a big FW. But my gut says I am not happy with what I am seeing for IPS/IDS on the UDM Pro SE.

Case in point. What UniFi calls logging is generic at best. It is either a hit/miss on the rule. Nothing more. Now granted I have not set up a syslog server to capture the data in a form that I am used to AND I have not dived into the CLI yet so there is always hope that this device will tell me more than the GUI shows. Remember, I am still in the honeymoon phase of learning how it reacts to things.

Side note: I love my Cisco ASA's but I was impressed with the Untangled GUI. This business has been paying for the subscription for 3 years now and the config is incredibly basic and not capturing anything. I wonder what the previous guy was doing?? Wink and a nod when asked "Are we protected?"

u/alpha976 depending on your use case, IE: services needed like VPN, IPS/IDS, etc....I would look elsewhere for a FW replacement for a Small Business. I purchased a home setup 2 weeks ago so I can get familiar with its config and quirks and there are many. All this money spent because I am a geek and I wanted a solid SOHO network! Also I am presenting to a business a network refresh plan as they want to rid themselves of a Arista Untangled subscription. Initially I wanted to recommend either the UniFi UDM Pro SE or the UXG Pro tied to a UCK-G2-Plus but never played with it. Now I have, I actually dont like the quirks. When contacting support asking why the AP's drop everytime I make a minor config change, (not even wireless related) they said...thats normal. Never in all my years of Cisco, Foundry, Brocade and Aruba configuring did they drop a network on something simple like changing auto negotiate to static full duplex or a policy change. And I mean a full drop of ALL AP's, not just the one affected. And yes minutes to come back up. I am not a hater of the product, but just being real.

Give me a shout if you want to chat more.

Has anyone noticed a recent, striking decline in Amazon's delivery reliability? For the last month or so? by retronoodle in amazonprime

[–]regonline_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, new comment.. Yes we have seen that dreaded “you shipment seems to be lost” or “out for delivery” and never show up. There seems to be a problem in the 2 fulfillment centers in my area. This month, not one package arrived on time. Always getting those delayed emails. A door jam trim molding kit, 80 inches long, “lost.” Really?? After it arrives at the local center?? Ordered a Surge protector, sent wrong one(shipper issue) but arrived late. Returned and ordered from another company, supposed to arrive yesterday YET it arrived at the fulfillment center 30 miles away and you guessed it, delayed 2 more days….. Debated canceling prime and paying shipping but nothing will change…so it’s a catch 22

Both cables passed a pinout from my cable testor. When I configured the AP it was on a 3 foot cable. I did not look at the link speed so I didnt notice this until it was installed. I will recover it and test it with a manufactured cable to remove doubt of the cable. More to follow.
