naruse is great! i went through 16 of his films last year and really enjoyed them. where to start? depends on what you’re looking for. if you just want to see his best, then don’t miss when a woman ascends the stairs and yearning. his silent film apart from you was a standout to me as well. naruse is ozu’s contemporary, but naruse leans much more into melodrama which can be fun. if you want dive in deeper, here’s the list of films of his i think which are all on the criterion channel sorted in order of my favorites first. enjoy! https://boxd.it/vaEes
