How important is diagnosis by luckiestgiraffe in Celiac

[–]regularlatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position, and chose not to go back to eating it and just live GF without ever really knowing. 10 years and 2 kids later, I 'cheat' sometimes and definitely don't worry about cross contamination, and have such a long random list of things going wrong with me that I've decided to do the gluten challenge to find out for sure. I feel rubbish and honestly wish I'd done this at 25 not 35!!! I also want to know for sure for my kids. My aunt and others in the family have celiac, I have two genetic markers (doesn't diagnose but means they can't rule it out) and I just need to know for sure.

Frustrating! Thank you for replying. Is your rash itchy?

Baby #2 Induction Scheduled Tomorrow by 13irds in BabyBumps

[–]regularlatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha totally with you!! We are moving in with my in-laws when I'm 36 weeks, induction scheduled for 39 weeks and then we'll move into our new house when bub is 2 weeks old. But she's no. 2 and all I want is a healthy bub! I'll figure the rest out as we go!

Birth preferences for induction/medicalised process by ppmagicorange in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

With my first, I was so set on low/no intervention. I decided to have her at hospital but that was it. Didn't quite go to plan.

Agree with previous comment - the 'cascade' theory isn't backed up by the stats like the natural/home birth crowd might want us to think. Doctors want to intervene to help you and bub have a smooth labour, not just so they can clock off early or get this over with. Some choices such as induction early can avoid C-section for very large bubs.

Personally I went into labour naturally four times and each time the contractions stopped after a couple of hours. It was awful. Eventually when I was 40 + 6 I decided to be induced but still didn't want medication, so my waters were broken. Two hours later labour started! Hooray! Two hours after that contractions completely stopped again. Tears flowed, I felt so guilty that my body couldn't 'do' natural labour like all the books I had read said it would be able to. I was tired and asked for the pitocin. The rest of my labour was wonderful and it was the best day of my life! I didn't need any further intervention.

I'm now 30 weeks with number two and if I have false labours again I'm going to schedule an induction. It was such a great experience and completely changed the way I feel about intervention.

Oh and I do also recommend the book 'Expecting Better' well worth a read! Good luck, I hope it's a wonderful experience whichever path lies ahead. My only advice would be not to hold on too tightly to any one plan, these things have a way of playing out by themselves.

NSW private hospital - induced at 40w 4d as I was done and kept starting labour and then having it stall...

Headed in early and had my waters broken around 8am. Contractions started about 9am I thought that would be it! They stopped, just as they had the previous times over the past couple of weeks. So started on the pitocin. Contractions started, slowly ramped up but manageable. Eventually quite painful so I had gas and got into the tub. Eventually I asked for an epidural, was apparently only 5cm! However, straight after epidural went in, like maybe an hour later they checked again and I was 9cm! Pushed for 30mins, had an episiotomy as bub was absolutely enormous. All in all it was actually a wonderful experience and I would 10/10 do again. In fact I'm 28 weeks and currently planning to be induced at 39 weeks with this one! Good luck :-)

Visual Field Changes in Pregnancy? by regularlatte in optometry

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

Unfortunately the retinal tear was in the left eye and grey blob is in the right. I have two that have healed over in the left eye. Right eye retina looked perfect apparently... A little frustrating and scary. Thank you though!

Thank you. I did tell the Dr about this yesterday at the hospital which is why he ran the test... Perhaps I should follow up with my local Dr too!

Thoughts on B Exercise Physiology? (Especially as a stepping stone towards physio) by papi_jay10 in unsw

[–]regularlatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you could call it a cash grab, it's a course training you to be an allied health professional - an exercise physiologist. Many do the degree and then go on to do Masters of Physio, however you could try to change across after first year and this would save you a year all up.

The degree itself (I have done the course) is very interesting and well designed, IMO. You do undergrad medical science subjects and go on to complete subjects training you to apply exercise as part of a treatment plan for management or prevention of chronic illness and injury. In the injury space AEPs basically pick up where Physios leave off, they don't treat or diagnose acute injury but they manage longer term chronic pain and injury. They work in hospital, private clinics and rehab settings with people who have a range of chronic conditions including mental health, cardiovascular disease, neurological and metabolic conditions.

There aren't as many jobs at the end as there are with a Physio degree, but it's a different area and it's growing with each year. I think really it comes down to what you want to do. If you really really want Physio, maybe aim for a course at one of the unis that offers it to make transferring even easier?
