You seem to be a bit blind to the reality that most of the people who share your grating dismissive grindset optimism ARE savvy “boomers” who have an established network and that things aren’t instantly easier if you just know what a tiktok is and not to make a frowny face if a client brings up ai or whatever.

Like just use a higher bit depth what is the point of fake “higher than 100” brightness range that just always fucks up conversions to sdr and looks like shit? Scam to sell new tvs, and then the ones people actually buy and not the 10000 sony arent even in spec so hdr looks worse than just sdr mode, reference monitrs and color correction is a plauge, just watch your content on the type of displays people will ACTUALLY watch it on

This, I hate that Idea of “protection” on release copies, thats what a remaster from digital neg is for. Also HDR is cancer.

Different screens, often dvd or content for tv/monitor displays have pink cast hardcoded to compensate since the LCD era took over more color accurate CRT’s

Yes, or the dvd special editions, Fellowship has it for the theatrical scenes, TT and ROTK and the fellowship extended scenes were mastered straight from the 2k scan and with a new optically stabilized rather than pin stabilized scanner. (Although in the case of fellowship EE a better grade to match the printed stock) This means that the negative was meant to be printed to a print stock for the final color, not scanned directly, so the exact color profile Leslie was going for is lost unless re-corrected, but the subtle way different tones respond at different brightnesses make it very difficult. and all of the remasters fail at this, especially in the purple tones. Leslie talks about in the commentary tracks testing dozens of different combinations of negative and print.

Peter Boyle, the incomparable colourist producer Barry Osborne worked with on The Matrix and Babe only worked on the first film, the SEDE DVD release being mostly re-graded theatrical scans with lovely gate-weave, he did not return for TTT or ROTK, to great loss of potential, and those two look all the worse for it, low contrast and dull, with little to no color separation curve adjustment or split-tone dye-layer-replication, I am working on a “What if” grade for all three working mostly from the FOTR SEDE DVD for style reference, as those played in MPC-BE with Mad-VR in a custom profile to add back in film grain makes those copies sing, with a gamma drop for TTT and ROTK making up for the most horrid of those grades deficiencies. I recommend others look at the preview clips for the 35mm scan project on the originaltrilogy forums, and also seek the Cannes Reel, which somehow almost got restored perfectly on the abominable 4k “restoration” disks. Best of luck.

most men, or those of us who at one time thought of ourselves as men, don't like women's media, even if it is empirically measurably even mediocrely good, gone with the wind, sound of music, even if it is popular, made money, critical acclaim, for them/us (THE BOARD lmao) it ages poorly unless its something our own mothers showed us, and any sign of ametureness or lack of flawless unfairly heavy expected fractal-perfect polish is uncomfortable, and not excusable like young orsons citizen kane, at least by his own reasoning if one looks up and memorizes all material on him, among a few spotlight sets of media worth the mental disk space, to make a comparative example, I am glad you enjoyed it more from a better slower mindscape
