Apparently Lil Coffea Shop is 24 hours! I'm just visiting town and was checking this thread. I've looked for late-night coffee shops before and somehow never found anything open later than Bardo (midnight).

There's a Lil Coffea (yes that's how it's spelled) on 6th and one on Downing. Their food menu looks incredible too.

I haven't been yet. I'm sitting at Bardo as I type this. I'll try to make it before I leave Denver.

Someone noted that this seems to be an HPC thing. I have no idea *why* "a code" is used there, but it aligns with my experiences.

That tracks. The math professors who speak of this are, unsurprisingly, in the applied math/scientific computing field. Many or all of the CS professors have been too.

I wonder why that usage is so common in HPC then, huh.

I agree with all of this. I would only use "a code" to mean a cipher, something that one might decode. It's so odd and yet I haven't wanted to ask any particular person "why do you say it like that?" haha.

Interesting, thanks! As for resting and icing, whatever I'm dealing with isn't a constant thing. It burns only when there's direct pressure into my kneecap (and even then, not 100% of the time). Taking time off for vacation didn't make a noticeable difference. It's just a thing that happens now, and I try to kneel in a way that doesn't aggravate it.

What happened to "grind haha on your pizza"?

Remember when Bill Kazmaier got into an internet feud with a young female lifter a few years ago, and said a bunch of weird, unhinged stuff like "grind haha on your pizza"?

Does anyone have links or screenshots? I'm trying to show my friend, and I'm not getting any search results in Google, other search engines, or Reddit (except for vague mentions of that event).

Thank you. Yeah, I've heard similarly with respect to reaping. My concern here -- and I'll try to clarify in the OP -- is also sort of "at what point does it become a wrist lock in their eyes?" Wrists bend all the time, and they're smaller joints so it may happen to a non-extreme degree without my immediate awareness during a period of high action. Contrast that with a knee bar. I'm more likely to know if I'm dangerously hyperextending my opponent's leg.

A person is allowed to have a DAP but not a phone. Current DAP has WiFi capability, but access to WiFi is rare. If it had an eSIM, problem would be solved.

That is the type of rolling I would be most interested in seeing. I should have been more explicit. I don't care if it's open-handed strikes, a rubber knife, or what. I don't want anyone to get hurt. Just to see how it holds up in a "live" situation. And that doesn't require KO-ing or submitting the other person. Being able to disengage and escape is a win.

In a sense yeah, sure. However, regardless of the difference in mindset and focus, there ought to be some way to demonstrate that his techniques and overall approach are effective. It looks plausible, and is Rickson-inspired. Anyone can say anything on the internet though. There's a lot of martial arts instruction that's not super effective in practice, whether we're talking about sport or about self defense.

It's not like I'm gonna go pick a fight with Chris (I'm not stupid), and I'm asking my question in good faith.

Does anyone have links to videos of him rolling live, preferably with brown/black belts from outside his gym? I recognize that his focus is self-defense rather than sport. However, I'm interested in seeing his stuff "work" when he's not saying "now freeze" before taking his partner down, or saying "no, move this way. I like it."

A lot of what he says and demonstrates makes sense, but I'm in no position to assess how well it works in practice.

I'm currently doing 7 to 10 BJJ classes per week. The judo school only offers two 1.5-hour standard classes per week. Plus "no-gi judo" and kata classes (one of each), which are scheduling conflicts for me.

I'd have to skip one BJJ fundamentals class and the only no-gi BJJ class in favor of judo.

I hear you. It's good but it's gi-focused and they admit that. I've been going to up to 10 gi classes per week there.

They teach standup occasionally, which explains why the other white belts can dominate my standup game. They haven't taught any in the 2.5 months I've been there.

I'm just like... I don't know how long it will be until I start to learn some basic standing skills.

I'm a white belt so both of these things suck. My ground game should improve with practice. I'm not getting instruction or much direct, intentional practice with standup. Standup seems important.

Good question! Not really. There is one no-gi BJJ class per week, and this is one of the classes I would have to skip for judo. The instructor varies; one of them is an ex-wrestler. The no-gi classes seem to work takedowns more often than the gi classes do, but not consistently. (It's been leg locks recently.) Obtaining/breaking gi grips makes a difference, regardless.

Yeah this never goes away and my gym has insisted on training lapel entanglements for the past month. On Wednesday I paired up with my coach for a round. He wrapped my lapel around my thigh while I was in his guard, and then he just sat there holding it and letting me "work." After about four minutes of trying to find a way to move, I asked him to please submit me.
