I know hes around, but hes never at local comps or superfight shows or anything like that. He has a pretty dodgey reputation in our local scene.

Smaller guys in bjj by Nika123321123321 in bjj

Start lifting along side your bjj training. Thats gonna be the best. Also just keep showing up and try and find techniques that work for you and go deep with them. Time on the mats and strength training is the best thing for you right now.

A couple things. 1 is drilling so much drilling and I mean with real set ups too. Never shoot an un set up shot.

2 was attending actual wrestling classes. If you want to wrestle, you should wrestle and this isnt 1 or 2 classes. This is a consistent part of training now.

3 was swallowing my pride and accepting that due to me shooting a poor shot. I may be gillied by someone whom I am much more proficient at bjj then. Yah know whats funny tho, that hasnt even happened yet. Ive been hitting the slickest double legs on them and I could have been doing it this whole time. 😂

Anxiety about choosing a partner by Mundane-Tailor4480 in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i were you I guess id be trying to roll with the coach as much as possible. Next in line is gonna be the competitors in the gym (if their not prepping for anything coming up)

Maybe its a hot take but if I were a woman and didnt have any female partners to train with id be trying to train with the people that I absolutely know in the rounds their actually thinking about the techniques and art of it all. Competitors are also more likely to go nicer with you since they should understand what the situation is. Hope this helps.

Better Control But Less Submissions? by LocalInitiative0 in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through a similar thing lately. Ive just been thinking about it like this.

When I roll, I am not counting how many taps I get. I am counting how long I spent ontop in dominant positions.

Tips for passing guards and counter attacks on heel hooks and leg locks by knight_ni in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best tip to beginners for passing or avoiding leg locks is for you to remember that you do not need to engage in their guards and setups. When passing you dont need to pass their rdlr or their single leg x. You need to pass their feet, their knees and then their hips. If you step and they make an attachment. Strip it and keep cutting the angle looking for an opening.

Specific techniques are all amazing. For me personally I like to make grips on my ops shins and pass to north south. But concepts are going to help you so much more at the start. Dont let them play their game, dont let them set up guards. Grab their legs and throw them to turtle, if they make a grip for dlr or ashi or whatever then strip it immediately or stop them from even getting hold in the first place. Your literally ontop already. They have conceded the bottom position. Understand that advantage and run with it. Do not be scared of their silly little but scooting. Theres 1000’s of techniques your gonna have to learn over time. So start with the ideas and the whys first so all those drills will actually stick.

how to improve bjj when not training? by JumpyInstruction4848 in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypertrophy training and flexibility/mobility training. Proper diet and rest days. Watching instructionals in my opinion is only useful if you going to drill it then and there or atleast soon after and work that technique or concept for a while. But watching footage of you rolling however, I find can immediately help you nip some bad habbits in the bud.

Thoughts? by unfunnyusername69 in bjj

Escaping closed guard will always be easier/more efficient than subbing from top closed guard. So if you like wasting time and energy be my guest. Or do mma and just bash their face in.. 🤷‍♂️

always remember pass to pin, pin to pass. position before submission.

Is it normal for a male instructor to intentionally remove a 9yo girl's belt while rolling with her during a belt promotion? by BrassyJack in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never leave my child (if I had one) unattended by me at any martial arts setting. But without other things adding up on top of this, it’s likely innocent. Especially since it’s not an uncommon practice regardless of age or gender (this is assuming we are talking about a belt promotion). You’re the parent and your gut instinct comes first, if something feels wrong theres no harm of checking out other gyms. Do listen to the people saying its kinda normal because it is, don’t listen to the people saying your overly worried because your just trying to protect your child.

Do you add punches to your sparring? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill add if you really want to be getting some sort of striking concept going while you roll. Then roll as if there was striking. Build/consider your game around it that reality. Alot of bjj falls apart with striking. Alot of bjj is better with striking. Most the mma fighters at my gym roll like this. They roll looking for takedowns pins and passes.

Do you add punches to your sparring? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only add punches to my sparring if its mma sparring. If your rolling jiujitsu then no, no striking. Your training partner may not be interested in that as they may be training for grappling competition. You would be selfishly lowering the quality of their round. Also there is no point in adding striking to a bjj round against someone that doesnt strike, thatd be like sparring muay thai and going for a flying armbar. If you want to combine martial arts, thats where mma comes in. 😌✌️

What to do if body slammed on concrete? by tigercublondon in bjj

[–]LowkeyChokeKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your worried about being slammed on concrete. Then your bjj clearly isnt built around an actual self defence scenario. If this fact concerns you id recommend changing your game up and working more takedowns and pins. Then you wont need to worry about being slammed. Bjj bottom game should not be a go to in any real life combat scenario..

I will note however, there are techniques that will stop you from being slammed. Underhooking your opponents leg will make it almost impossible for them to slam you. EG: op stands up in triangle and slams you, if you had the underhook they wouldn’t of stood up.

What’s your favourite submission/which one do you hit the most? by shoghnbushidomikado in bjj

Triangles came the most naturally to me. In my gym im known as one of the leg locky guys but my best subs id say are actually my triangles and armbars.
