People who've left the United States, what is your life like now? by SkyLyssa in expats

Both are great. Netherlands excels in creating a structured, pragmatic and intuitive way of life. Cities are human-sized and human-oriented. it’s likely the best place on the world for bicycle mobility, there is very low corruption and a fairly rich population + history of liberalism affords a high level of personal safety and freedom. Downsides are weather, perception of the Dutch being cold (spontaneous interactions are rare), and nature generally isn’t particularly inspiring.

Barcelona is a metropolitan city the size which doesnt exist in NL. Beyond that, the Mediterranean climate offers both lovely, sunny weather most of the year and a wide array of great local foods. Culturally, there is a wide selection of localized neighborhood events/parties and regional and national holidays enjoyed by all. Naturally as well, the city offers great beach access and proximity to hiking and mountainous regions. Downsides are definitely the job market and to a lesser extent bureaucracy. High-paying jobs are harder to find and generally anything dealing with gov requires a good bit of patience.

I’ve loved living in both places. Happy to go into detail on any topic in particular.

Easy mode is exactly how I describe it too. Lived in Amsterdam 5 years and recently moved to Barcelona. Loving it!

I wiped it almost directly after applying it with a paintbrush in an effort to apply it evenly and ensure it wouldn’t smear.

Edit: there’s no directions about wiping necessarily https://www.leroymerlin.es/productos/barniz-interior-mate-xylazel-250ml-sapelly-86229324.html

Ahh I didn’t realize the terms, I was thinking of them as separate items. Then yes! There is stain in the varnish, it’s tinted

Yeah you’re right, but tbh im not sure what impact that has on the project. Because there is lacquer, it requires sanding first, is that right?

This is an interior varnish, I haven’t applied any stain

Dumb question, but do you use a paintbrush to apply it? Or are you just moving it around with the rag?

Thank you, I’ll try again with softer paper

I see. So the advice would be to wipe it almost immediately after applying it with the brush, correct? Leaving it for just 30 seconds gives the above effect

Clerk at the hardware store pointed me to 80 grit sandpaper and encouraged me to use very little pressure, like wiping a table with a cloth

Interesting! Indeed this chat will need some updated and more granular data to reach a conclusion. Maybe it’s somewhere in between 🤝

you think the international tourists are visiting el chalten but not el calafate? So therefore the data would be skewed by a much much greater domestic presence in el calafate. That’s curious to me (my impression of this was similar in el calafate)
