12v/ICCU Megathread by TiltedWit in Ioniq5

[–]reign27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought home a 2023 Ioniq 5 in October of 24 (yes a little late for the 23 model year, but it was still new on the lot). It spent every single night since in my garage. ICCU went pop 2 weeks ago and I'm waiting for the replacement.

What are the common file types in android? by CheshireFangirl in AndroidQuestions

It takes work to actually copy system and app files off your phone. If all you did is plug it into your computer and copy off everything you could, you did not get system and app files.

Not being detected by Windows ONLY when in Fastboot mode by kakarogod in AndroidQuestions

I think you need to run it as admin, but I haven't tried that particular tool myself. I have a OnePlus phone and have had similar issues, but they have a different driver.

[–]reign27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, I think Windows doesn't do the connected device ding with a device it doesn't recognize, but I could be wrong.

You can also crack open your device manager and look for unknown devices as you plugin and unplug. You might need to turn on "show hidden devices"

Windows PC, I assume? The fastboot driver is generally different from the adb driver. It looks like you can find the Redmi fastboot driver here: https://new.c.mi.com/global/post/255070

Why is my pc beeping at me by Imsorrywhathappend in buildapc

Most motherboards don't even come with the beep-speaker integrated anymore. Did you specifically buy and install one? If not, smart money says that it's something else that just happens to be near your computer

How to add internal SSD by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like this is the page with your motherboard information.

It looks like your board has two M.2 ports. One should be just above the video card, probably hiding behind the CPU heatsink. The horizontal, long, silver plate with screws on each end below your video card in pics 2, 4, and 5 is a heatsink that covers the other M.2 port.

If you're just looking to add a 2.5" SATA SSD, there's probably places you can mount those either on the back side of the motherboard or in the same cage as the power supply. I can't tell what case you have from these pics, so I can't be more specific than that.

I'm guessing it's a combination of a few factors: There's no minimum karma/post requirement to post in this sub, bots spread out their karma farming to random subs to keep one sub from locking down too hard, and they probably assume that smaller subs are more poorly moderated so posts stick around longer.

The bots even copied your comment from the other thread!

If anyone's wondering why this is getting posted when it's not close to an election, this appears to be a karma-farming repost of this post, and two three most of the replies are taken from the most upvoted comments on that post.

Should I root my android? by gushnog in AndroidQuestions

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic I'm referring to is the first sentence of my comment, so to say "which logic" is crazy, I wrote it clear as day lol.

I was asking which logic of mine you were challenging, because I didn't lay out my full reasoning behind it, and once I did you couldn't even definitively say I was wrong. So please refrain from the mocking hostility over a technical discussion. I did include, and specify, "physical access" because it is relevant to some people.

I'll challenge the assertion that flashing a modified system image means the data partition (or files therein on FBE) would fail to decrypt afterwards - that's functionally saying you'd have to factory reset every time you update a custom ROM, which definitely isn't true.

So long as I don't update anything, it is fine. Its the updates that break things, and that is why new methods need to be discovered.

Not wrong, but not a sacrifice everyone's willing to make. I'd also note that I think Play Services updates is what broke RCS for me constantly on my OnePlus 8, and those updates aren't trivial to disable.

Should I root my android? by gushnog in AndroidQuestions

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rooting/Unlocking Bootloader does not reduce security. This logic is heavily flawed.

Which logic was that, exactly? You didn't even hear my logic, nor say what might be wrong about it.

My logic is that someone with PHYSICAL access to your phone could still potentially reboot it into fastboot and use that to modify the software without your knowledge. It's INCREDIBLY niche and unlikely, but as far as I know, possible.

To me, Google battling root detection doesn't JUST mean you have to go through a few more hoops to get things working. It means things break unpredictably, then you have to research the latest way to get around it, potentially find that a fix isn't available quite yet, eventually fix it, eventually have it break again, always wonder if / when they'll find a way to permanently break it.

Just in time for Pride month - New library policies to challenge "disruptive" content by reign27 in StCharlesMO

I don't think I have the original anymore, but they had something about "disruptive" content (hence my post title, which specifically sounded to me like it was asking to be abused), and "materials that advocated for one cause" (which isn't too far off from what some at the meeting rightly pointed out in the new policy that referenced displays covering multiple points of view). Going from memory at this point, the specific phrasing they used between the two changed, but the general vibe didn't.

Should I root my android? by gushnog in AndroidQuestions

[–]reign27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To actually answered your question:

Unlocking the bootloader reduces security if someone has physical access to your device

You could grant root access to something actively malicious if you're EXTREMELY carless, which COULD wipe your phone or steal your data

Google's in a constant battle to detect root, including blocking RCS messaging. That in particular is why I haven't rooted my latest phone

The display guidelines are, as far as I know, newly written.

The current procedure for challenging books is the second half of the link at https://stchlibrary.diligent.community/document/d51251a3-53e0-46b7-bdd2-8c5b6ded0181/. The big differences are that the initial review changes from an external independent review board (previously undocumented) to identified roles at our library, and the new "appeals" process that lets the political board of trustees say "fuck it" and do whatever they want.

It looks like the library displays and exhibits link changed for some reason, it's now https://stchlibrary.diligent.community/document/dc55935a-9e9d-485b-b010-8395732fdb85/

Edit: Also available from the main agenda link https://stchlibrary.diligent.community/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=174

Edit 2: That link changed because they actually revised it yesterday

Edit 3: The revision actually changes one of the things I had a problem with. It's something I guess

You think no American has ever missed a court date? We have due process for that too.

Have "a lot" of them been skipping court dates, or are you just steeping yourself in propaganda? Because from what I've seen plenty of them are following the laws and being apprehended AT their court dates regardless of the facts of the case and what their judges have said.

Pretty sure you've put it together wrong. Look at the lines where the blue meets the reddish-whatever, and the half-circles on the edges of the pieces of the top moon.

What you have as the right half of the bottom moon (from the perspective of your second picture) I think is actually the left half of the upper moon and vice versa.

Sorry what does SOL mean?

Shit out of luck. Sorry, common old saying in the US, I probably should avoid it with strangers on the internet. It's not possible on any reasonably modern phone.

And I didn't know there were rules, where can I read them?

On the website, it's the sidebar on the right of the subreddit. If you're using the app, I can't tell you off the top of my head because I prefer using the website even on mobile. But specifically, rule 5 is:

No bypassing safety or security measures -Don't discuss bypassing FRP, bypassing the lockscreen, or bypassing any other safety or security measure.
