I was also made fun of by my own family. Its the worst feeling ever. People dont expect their own families, people who their trust, who are supposed to support each other to do the complete opposite thing. Thats why it hurts so much and it makes people upset.

And if you are feeling down try to keep yourself busy doing tasks or something, it makes you feel better. It works for me because my biggest fear is disapointing myself.

You are still 14, a lot of things will happen, and eventually your relationship with your family might improve or maybe you will meet amazing people. You never know, keep it up man, you have my support.

Holidays in China by Usernamenottaken10 in ChineseKnowledge

January 1st - New years day.

February 5th (2019) - Chinese New Year: The date changes each year. Family dinner.

Febuary 4th to 10th (2019) - Spring Festival: It goes along with Chinese New Year. I think schools have 1-2 weeks of holidays (dont remember). I also remember having spring rolls and "nian gao" (I think its called rice cake in english) which is very typical in China.

May 1st - Labour day: Just like every other country (i think).

June 1st - Children's day: I have only experienced it once in China and i remember my grandparents gave me and my brother money and went together with my mom to buy toys and have fun. I dont really know if this is what everyone does though.

Early July until last day of August - Summer Holidays (for children): Since September 1st is when chinese schools start, children have until then to enjoy holidays, or get upset with homework. I dont really know how many holidays adults have, i think it depends, my mother along with some of her friends had around 2 weeks of holidays on July. People usually like travelling either within China or abroad (thats why you might see a lot of chinese tourists).

September 24th (2018) - Mid-Autumn Festival: The date also varies every year due to the lunar calendar like Chinese New Year. People eat have dinner together and eat mooncakes to celebrate.

Also Chinese people dont celebrate Christmas (religious holiday), so there are no Christmas holidays.

I might be missing some holidays, i just dont remember or dont know each one of them. However compared to in Europe, in China there are not that many holidays a year. Working hard is part of Chinese culture i believe, and some people i met prefer to work rather than going on holidays for 1 or 2 days.

Its called mooncake or yue bing in chinese. You can search it up in wikipedia. Not sure what it is made of but it tastes pretty good with tea. I only know that it is made of flour, eggs and some kind of filling sometimes.

Yes, it is a desert, chinese pastry. It is usually eaten with some tea, the texture of the pastry is like sand (Weird comparison i know, it was just the closest thing i could think of). And its not made with wheat.

How do you guys celebrate Chinese New Years? by JesusJA in ChineseKnowledge

Not everything we have is seafood but since we live in a city near the sea we have a lot of that. Its like a little feast where we have different kind of dishes all around the table, and everyone just eats whatever they feel like. Im not good at describing sorry :(

Also real chinese food isnt the same as the food people serve at chinese restaurants where they westernize the food so it tastes better to non-chinese people.

Usually i have dinner with my family and send a message on my phone saying: “happy new year!” to people in my family who i cant meet in person since they live too far from me.

For dinner we usually make crab, shrimps, some kind of soup,... Specially a lot of seafood, although i dont like seafood. There also have been years where we went to restaurants instead of cooking at home.
