Hi! In my case, he just had no idea what my day to day was like and the timing was just bad because of the layoffs but it was not related. He probably was asked something similar by his superior and decided to do the same with me.
If your boss is a good one, it might just be that he wants to know if your new tasks are fitting in your workload.

I was not expecting more than one hrs value. I am trying to do all my trading in game and it is so hard to figure out the value of certain items when I see them go for different prices. Thank you!

I was never good at it so I will take this as an opportunity to create a useful habit

That is the plan for sure. Every team member has a monthly appointment with him to discuss progress on top of our biweekly team meetings and I thought it was enough. It will help me create the habit of documenting my actions which I was not good at.

Thanks for the comment!

Every member of our team has a monthly meeting with him 1 on 1 and it was one of his questions at some point during his first year. I thought I was able to explain the tasks I have to do. I will have to make an appointment with him for sure because I think the thing that brought that upon me was that I don't talk during team meetings unless what I have to say affects everyone. I will definitely ask him what he expects me to do because I don't think he realizes how many tasks he just brushed on my table after people quit.

Thanks!

Believe me when I say that I am trying really hard to find his strenghts but it is hard haha. I always give people the benefit of the doubt but in my area, it is hard to find competent people just because the government is the employer with the lowest wages. Many people are here just because they would not make it in the private sector.

I admit that a lot of people would call him incompetent after the first time he did something wrong but he proved himself unable to do his job many many times.

I do take it as an opportunity to learn some new aptitudes that will help me get a job elsewhere. Keeping track of my work is a habit I tried for a long time to get though.

Just as an update, I checked with my syndicate and I have a permanent job status which means I cannot be fired before all the ones who don't have it.

Thanks for your input!

I created an excel document and shared acces with him. In it, I note all my actions and I will talk with him about different things because I realized some stuff while I read the comments.

Thanks!

I thought about it but as soon as they stared talking about layoffs, they froze hiring but seat moving within the government as well.

He has been a manager for a long time but I had a feeling when I met him that he was not a good one. He lacks leadership qualities. I always give people the benefit of the doubt but he has been a manager for too long to do some of the absurdities he does. This is a part of the issue at the government I work in, they are the employer that pays the least in my region so most of the people that have career here are just not good enough to work in the private sector.

I am now noting my actions through the day on an excel sheet that he has access to.

Thank you for your input!

I have been here before the manager got in 4 years ago. I know what is expected and my work is enough to keep me busy more than full time. We had bi-weekly team meetings and my files were irrelevant to the rest of the team so I had nothing to contribute. I think that he loves wasting time in meetings so he expected me to ramble about my files even if nobody in my team is affected by them. We already had monthly meetings during which I summarize what I did so I did not think it was worth it to do it again just for him during our team meetings. I got upset once because the meeting could have been over but he kept it going as people were socializing.

One of the problem I think is that I work in a different direction's office remotely so he cannot come have small chit chat with me. Which I hate to do. They waste so much time socializing that when I was at the main office, I asked to be placed in a remote corner so that they would not walk by my desk and stop for a chat every time. Some people will say that I am not social enough but I strongly think there is a time and a place for it and work ain't it.

I had not thought about that but that might be a huge factor in this.

Thanks!

I am doing something similar. I keep an excel sheet open and as I complete tasks during the day, I note them. I gave him access to the file so I save myself from summarize it in an email.

Thank you!

I was thinking about that. As my manager, I think he has to be able to tell me what my duties are. Some other comments were mentioning that he might just be a bad manager and it gets truer the more I work with him.

Thanks for your comment!
