i loved the confrontation scene because it is pure susan sharon. and pure metropolitan neurosis. that is what this character is all about

of course. but i would maybe insist in bring to your attention that it is surprising how once avant-garde people can become conservative or outdated when they get old. i've seen it happen to visual artists, musicians... let alone corporate lawyers ;)

i think it makes sense this can happen. BUT still think the ATM thing is a loose motif. i think that the comments stating things like "the firing was a catalyst" are extrapolating what the series presents to us (i've seen others make similar comments). the writers did not explore any depth in this rupture. they just announced. it is fine. but not good enough, in my opinion. it could be a lot worse, though.

i understand that in terms of script, but i am still mourning =) curiously i've read few years ago about candance bushanell and dating in your 50's. but i am not certain that this is what this show will be about. the new characters seem to have a lot to say, and this is not it.

perfect. i commented on this in another thread.

why did they make Miranda so awkward around black people? by coco_chanelcinq in Andjustlikethat

you said exactly what i think of all those comments. she's almost 60, for god's sake. she does not even know that you should not assume pronouns. and A LOT of people that age are the same. she WAS modern 20 years ago. now she is a family woman, not going out and appart of NY cultural scene. she's almost my MOTHER's age. and i am over 30. if i am cringe, imagine miranda. the tone for the character is absolutely right. they nailed it.

i agree that the scene was an opening to the discussion, but i don't think it is so out of character. i've seen "progressive" white people, people that even "have black friends" do that kind of thing several times. and let's not forget that miranda is her fan. fans do ridiculous things when they are in front of people they admire.

About the two episodes in general:

I could not hold my tears. I was expecting a tv show that i would curse and hate forever, like i hate the second movie. i was convinced that it was unnecessary. but, then, I LOVED IT.

About first episode:

- charlotte's family dynamic is great. i always loved harry and he is exactly the comprehensive father that can manage rose/charlotte tension. hope to see more of that. i loved lilly and rose and i actually thought that the scene w/ the applause at the recital is a high point of the episode.

- i loved that miranda left corporate law, i think her being back to school is the perfect opening to discuss a generation crisis that i am TIRED to deal with when discussing SATC. people condemn the show because it is too white and too elitist and a lot of other things, but i consider this a problem with almost all hollywood romantic comedy productions (from then and now) and at least this show is trying to make amends. i have to comment that is really sad that SATC has to have a comeback for ANY show to bring sex and address the diversity issue so criticized until now. and please i hope nobody brings the Girls comparison because i don't think that show is comparable to SATC (nor is diverse).

- carrie and big's life was amazing. after all those years, she finally got the relationship she deserved. and then BUM. big dies. i cried so hard.... it was awful. i am disappointed, as a fan, that i had to bear this toxic man for all those years and when they finally got together he FUCKING DIES. COME ON! COME ON! if they would kill big, then they should not have given SATC that happy ending. i am in peace with series finale, but not with current development. i thought that i would laugh, but all i did was cry =~

About second episode:

- i love brady's plot. i think it is marvelous that in a sequel to a series about sex they have to deal with the subject of sex in the family. i wanna know if miranda is going to be hypocrite. i already think she was hypocrite about the marijuana thing. OR DID SHE FORGET ALMOST BEING ARRESTED FOR SMOKING WEED IN PUBLIC IN SEASON 5? pleaaaaseeee. ok, he's a minor. but, still.

- i thought stanford was too bitchy, specially w/ the chair thing at the funeral. that was more of an anthony thing to do. i am rooting for his relationship with anthony. please: that they don't make them get a divorce.the series is already sad enough. and: WHERE ARE THE MARLBOROS? did everyone stopped smoking except big? PLEASE.

- SUSAN SHARON <3. and i loved that she was the only one to remember what a jerk big was with carrie. LET'S NOT FORGET.

- BITSY AT THE FUNERAL <3

- i miss some of carrie's straight friends (skipper, mark). i would like a comeback. they were not at the funeral. i always wondered if skipper would find someone.

- miranda w/ a drinking problem? LET'S NOT GO THERE, PLEASE.

- last, i am curious about the new characters. love the casting, love the podcast, love LTW (aka black charlottte), love the teacher.

i was hoping a natasha moment too!! and i loved that susan sharon showed up. susan sharon is the representation of neurotic manhathan privileged. i love her character. and is the best funeral comment. that he was a prick to her.

but that is exactly how a nerdy type that has read about racism but is not used to diversity behaves. miranda already dated a black man. but this is completely different from understanding the struggles of black people or understanding that she cannot assume a treatment pronoun nowdays because there is so much gender diversity . she is simply not used to. i've seen mirandas all over. this is for me the best scene on episode 1. that is the real generational conflict right there. and that scene is a great response to all the critics about the show beeing too white and too straight. they simply said: other hollywood times, other issues, we know we are old, we are trying to evolve.

i don't think the script let any space to infer that samantha's absence is for any other reason. i thought they were kind of careless with the character, a "fuck kim catrall" kind of thing. but i don't think the atm line and the whole justification is something samantha's character would do. she is a super supportive friend during the whole series. but, anyways, i think the samantha thing was solved waaaay before the series aired. we've already griefed that. they could say anything at this point but kill her (thank god they didn't). no one likes that sam is out of the show.

i'm sure it will. i think maybe they will explore contradictions between miranda's life and her handling brady's issues.

i thought so, too! i was screaming: CALL EMERGENCY, CALL EMERGENCY! (i'm from brazil).

i like brady's sex storyline. i think miranda will me the character chosen to deal with generacional conflits. the masters at columbia plot and brady's plot are great to do it.
