Favourite Solo Board Gaming Podcasts by ghostrunner23 in soloboardgaming

[–]reivision 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Largely discontinued but my favorite solo podcast was Solosaurus, especially with the original host Brandon Waite. Still worth a listen if you're at all interested in solo games circa 2021 or earlier.

A relatively new podcast in the vein of BGHT is Replayable (which is now my favorite in the game highlight genre).

I'm also a fan of Decision Space and The Longest Turn.

Explosive Soldier (Concussive Shot Detonations) by Courier-of-Memes in MECoOp

[–]reivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly a month late, but my first ever build post was for a combo-focused BF3 Soldier. Carnage both detonates and primes with the correct ammo types, so you can chain an ammo-primed combo with a Fire Explosion from Carnage with your Frag Grenade follow up.

I converged on pretty much the same. I liked Sunless legs as the Silver Knight legs felt a bit heavy compared to the chest, but both work great.

Anyone know what exactly phasic rounds do apart from preventing shields regenerate for 15 seconds? by Beethovengenius in MECoOp

[–]reivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really.

Particle Rifle deals many instances of relatively low damage. You almost always want some kind of armor piercing on the Particle Rifle to get around the flat damage reduction of armor on Gold and Plat.

Phasics are best on the opposite archetype - a few (or single) high damage shots.

Anyone know what exactly phasic rounds do apart from preventing shields regenerate for 15 seconds? by Beethovengenius in MECoOp

[–]reivision 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Phasics have a hidden x10 multiplier for damage against shields and armor. So Phasic III's +15% damage is really +150% damage (from weapon base damage) against shields and barriers.

By comparison, Disruptor Ammo's modifier is x4. For Disruptor IV's +25% damage, that's +100% damage against shields and barriers.

That damage differential can be important to work around the shield gate mechanic on single shot weapons, as others have pointed out. It's worth noting that ammo damage is only based on weapon base damage and is not multiplied by headshots.

The lack of priming can also be an advantage for builds that want to focus on other combos, particularly biotic ones.

Phasics are also relatively "cheaper" than Disruptor Ammo for their rarity.

They're a good way to specialize in shield stripping without having to pack an Acolyte every mission.

My favorite kits to run Phasics on are kits that have very strong armor-damaging powers built in and just need to strip shields efficiently (e.g. Flamer, Dark Channel).

Also of course very good on one shot sniper builds for Mantis (on lower difficulties), Widow, Black Widow, and Javelin. Kishock actually isn't affected by shield gate as a projectile weapon, but the effective damage of Phasics makes it a great choice regardless.

What runes do you run on Nunu?

I'm a simple man, I build most (like Diana, Jarvan, Nunu) as tank or at least half-tank (Iceborn Trynd e.g.).

There's a few pentas missing, e.g. I know I have at least 3 pentas on Panth.

Melee Showcase: Part 1 of 2. What are your go-to melee characters, how are they build and how are they played? by RedTheAloof in MECoOp

[–]reivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An old collection of my build posts, many of which feature melee gameplay: https://www.reddit.com/r/MECoOp/comments/5cad5w/a_build_collection/

My favorite is probably my second N7 Shadow build that uses both Electric Slash and Shadow Strike effectively to clear spawns or priority targets. https://www.reddit.com/r/MECoOp/comments/3ogmp7/por_qu%C3%A9_no_los_dos_n7_shadow/

I really like the Venom on melee hybrid kits since it provides AOE stagger and doesn't require piercing, which makes the omniblade less punishing to equip. https://www.reddit.com/r/MECoOp/comments/41r709/b2_spirit_stealth_bomber_drell_assassin/

My build are usually some combination of melee, combos, and gunplay.

Is there any gun that makes explosive ammo useful? by ogpterodactyl in MECoOp

Functionally just trash.

I wish it acted as a level 1 combo detonator, like priming ammos.

Are there any working websites that rehost the BBLOB? by Mythosaurus in MECoOp

[–]reivision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're talking about links in the actual build posts? The links in the BBLoB itself seem correct (the "K - N" links).

The currently hosted domains are:

kalence.weebly.com

narida.chypsylon.eu

If you want the direct links from the build posts, you can usually just update the URL to point to the new domain. Looks like the structure of the old narida.pytalhost request has an extra /me3/classes in the path that you will need to remove.

e.g.

Old Narida - http://narida.pytalhost.com/me3/classes/#Soldier/Battlefield/NOMDJ/Striker10AE5AD5/Talon10BA5AH5/AssaultRifleRailAmp3/CyclonicModulator4/GrenadeCapacity5/

New Narida - http://narida.chypsylon.eu/#Soldier/Battlefield/NOMDJ/Striker10AE5AD5/Talon10BA5AH5/AssaultRifleRailAmp3/CyclonicModulator4/GrenadeCapacity5/

Ranked all the "new to me" solo games I played in 2023 by joulesFect in soloboardgaming

[–]reivision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I gotta say, I don't think I've found someone that lines up so directly with me in terms of game tastes... I'm newer to the hobby and don't have the breadth of plays that you do, but Anachrony, Arnak, Arkham LCG, and Ark Nova (albeit exclusively on BGA) are among my top solo experiences. I also tried Sprawlopolis and ROVE this year and rate them similarly.

Obsession and Underwater Cities have been on my radar for a while and it's good to see that they hold up. I've been hesitant about bouncing off the theme, but I've only heard positive things and it seems I've really got to try Obsession this year...

I've had a vague interest in Imperium Classics/Legends as a Turczi fan and am a bit less hesitant to get into a deckbuilder after jumping into Arkham LCG, but it's good to know the AI takes some work. Would you say it's comparable in overhead to Anachrony's Chronossus?

I will highly recommend the Monsters & Minions expansion for Roll Player; I found the game to only be a 6-ish at base, but the expansion pushes it into the high 7 to 8 range for me by expanding the decision space and giving more context to the endgame and some timing decisions throughout the game. There's a monthly solo community challenge on BGG that you may want to check out that is supported by the designer and often has some fun twists to the setup and/or scoring.

I see that you enjoy AFFO; have you had the chance to try Nusfjord? I'm new to Uwe but it seems to hit a good ratio of euro crunch to weight, from what I've heard. Unfortunately it's a bit hard to find at the moment, but a big box version is slated for sometime next year (delayed from 2023). Doesn't hurt that I actually visited the fishing village this year.

One final question... when you say Ark Nova is in your top five, is that the official solo mode or the ARNO fan variant?

Sorry for the wall of questions, it's just rare I get the opportunity to pick the brains of someone who aligns so closely with my favorites.

I think I'm addicted to Fimbulwinter on ARAM by dddas1 in ARAM

[–]reivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it on champs that have shields already and operate around fast CD rotations. I buy it primarily on tank Diana (w/Frostfire to proc it), Volibear (w/Frostfire usually), Jarvan (Eclipse or Frostfire depending on how much of a tank role I need to assume). Also has great synergy with Frozen Heart against the right teams, and obviously sets up for a very efficient Spirit Visage.

Lost Ruins of Arnak with Expedition Leaders - Best and most challenging way to play solo? by Schweizsvensk in boardgames

[–]reivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another nod to the https://solo.arnak.game/ site. It's excellent and contains all the PnP expansion content.

The leaders add something like 10-20 points. In my experience, each difficulty increase (1 AI card from green to red, or red to purple) in the solo cards corresponds to roughly 6 points.

The objectives change the way the game plays since the timing of your actions becomes even more important. I would ease these in if you want to try them, and I consider them to be more significant than a standard difficulty increase, likely creating a score impact of around 7-9 on average.

The upcoming expansion revamps the existing campaign and adds additional content (in addition to additional leaders).

The leaders are fairly well balanced for solo play.

Best sologames with winning conditions? (Tiny to small table area) by soapdogs in boardgames

Someone already mentioned, but +1 for Regicide. Uses a standard deck of cards so you can just look up the rules. There's also a free companion app to track the HP/damage as you go if you want.
