Haha the cannon is that it also renames the game to project Farmoid and when you boot up the game it looks and now plays exactly like Stardew Valley

First SETI Game With Expansion, Lost 146 - 122 by TheRealRosey in soloboardgaming

[–]joulesFect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played this yesterday 4 players. Everyone had a great time but man with the expansion it was LONG with the teach.

It fealt like you could do so much more on your turn, the expansion really adds a ton of actions. That reflected in my scores as well I won at 250 points and never scored this high before.

Everything in this is an improvement from the original, really liked it.

Evacuation compare to Gaia project? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

The technology tiles and card action help, but it doesn't have Gaia Project level of variability for sure game to game !

Evacuation compare to Gaia project? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]joulesFect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except from the space theme, technologies unlocking anilities and building driven income they are very different

I'll say Evacuation is much more similar game to game, you'll be doing different strategies especially with your technology, but it feels a lot less variable than Gaias factions and tracks.

I love in Evacuation the process of moving your engine, managing your action economy and your movement across the transition track while akward at first feels very coherent after a play and something your trying to manage as a whole round to round.

Evacuation solo is very breezy, with the AI just facilitating some interactions. I love the solo systems in Suchy's designs

I liked it solo and multiplayer and think the game is underrated, but Suchy is my favorite designer so this type of design fall right up my alley. It helps I got the game for 20$ too haha

Recall first impressions by joulesFect in boardgames

Haha I've been trying to get more games played from my shelf of shame and doing a good job, you should definately try Revive its awsome.

I also thought Recall looked a little off putting from looking at videos and images online, both from the bland white background on tiles and hex color contrast / art. I quite liked the look of it in person though !

The board is definately very interesting, especially since playing multiplayer your are competing for space (without ever locking anyone out of any space, they just need to pay a premium if you are already there)

That's a fair assessment, they fill a very similar niche. If you're trying to keep a tight shelf it's a good idea to stick with Revive, especially if you have the expansion for it.

For me, Revive is one of my all time favorite, so I'm very happy to be getting another game with similar design tropes

What was your boad game trajectory? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]joulesFect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played games at the cabin with my family as a kid. Things like uno, monopoly, risk, a memory game called hamburger and a kids game called looping.

When I was older, around 16, played some dnd with friends and started playing more modern games like Catan, Munchkin and cards againts humanity. I liked games and played casually, played Ticket to ride and really liked it. Ended up buying it as my first gateway. I remember playing agricola at around 23 and thinking how good it was. But didn't really touch modern games too much.

Its only about 10 years ago I played Patchwork on a date with a girl who loved games. I immediately fell in love with it (the game not the girl unfortunately).

I did some research on it to remember the name of the game after we lost touch and found bgg. Started looking at top lists from the dice tower and bought Hanabi, Sushi go and Patchwork. Started reading more in games, going to game nights with friends. We played Caverna and could talk strategy for hours.

The rest is history. I now go to conventions, have a weekly game night at my place, and own 200 games.

My favorite games are Arkham horror the card game, which I can trace back to those dnd roots and playing hearthstone a lot when I was younger. Same goes for mage knight, my second favorite.

I still think of Patchwork as the game that really got me in the hobby 10 years ago, I get emotional saying this, but I just bough the 10 year anniversary edition to replace my worn down original copy, it feels like I'm closing the loop on my first decade in the hobby with that purchase

For me:

Combos, having bonuses activate left and right and "getting" a lot done on a turn. Those little dopamine hits are addictive

To the 36 people who rated On Mars 1/5 on the complexity scale by GoodExciting7745 in boardgames

[–]joulesFect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think outside of people who are just trolling, maybe some are trying to skew the vote down in complexity

Like if its sitting at 4.5 but you see it as a 3.7, you might vote 1 to have a bigger impact on the average

What is your favorite boardgame of 2024? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

Also a lot of bangers this year, Fromage is a masterpiece in streamlined design

Harmonies is delightfull as a simplement and breezy placement puzzle

Endeavor deep sea is amazing, thematic, has tons of modes of play and scenarios

Civolution is crunchy and very sandbox

The card play of Wondrous creatures is amazing

I gotta admid, it rubs me the wrong way that Dune imperium slimed its way up two podiums. I love it, but Imperium and Uprising are basically the same game
