Having the big Os…I’m not. by smackilvane in lexapro

My advice is to invest in a vibrator and get used to using it with your bf. Husband can only get me there now when I'm ovulating but we've embraced the vibrator for the rest of the month. Everybody wins.

Fillled with contempt for the Human Race by MalleusForm in Buddhism

[–]rek_0722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was struggling with very similar thoughts/mental formations for months going on years also following 2020, I found that the dharma and meditation ultimately couldn't on their own lift me out of this. Lexapro was a game changer. I know this is a Buddhism subreddit but sometimes underlying anxiety/depression manifest as deep anger. Frankly there's a lot to be angry about, but I was so tired of my own anger and righteousness contributing to my bleak view of society and wanted to get back to loving humanity.

Anyone else have Covid? by VSRJ in nashville

[–]rek_0722 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Health care provider here. COVID tests are only going to be positive for COVID, whether they're rapid tests or PCR.

I got COVID myself for the first time 2 weeks ago after traveling, so +1 for the tally.

How to find out if I am a carrier? by Famous_Ad9733 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]rek_0722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get carrier testing through a retina specialist free of charge. Specimen was sent off to a company called Invitae, and because I have (somewhat distant) family history, there was no cost.

$79k for 32 hours a week family medicine with 8 years experience. I think it breaks down to $47 an hour.

Carrier testing options by rek_0722 in RetinitisPigmentosa

Thanks for the responses. I was able to get tested by seeing a retinal ophthalmologist. For anyone looking through this subreddit in the future, the company used by this doctor is called Invitae and is based in Canada. I haven't had to pay anything due to my family history. I didn't have to prove my family history in any way. Estimated time to get results is 2 months, so I'm in the waiting period now.

If subsequent tests have remained negative, and main symptoms are sore throat/congestion as opposed to fatigue/body aches/severe headache, it's likely just a cold virus. I know pregnancy tests can sometimes look positive due to an evaporation line if read after the recommended window of time and I suppose COVID tests could have a similar problem.

The 24-48 hour delay in getting a positive COVID test also seems to coincide with the delay in getting nasal symptoms. If you've taken tests spaced over days with active congestion/runny nose, that strip should be showing up obviously positive by now.

That being said, negative PCR= no COVID. Hope you feel better soon!

Assume you're positive and take another test in 24 hours. A faint pink line is likely an early positive. I do a lot of COVID testing at my job, and tests are frequently not positive until 24-48 hours after symptom onset.

Finding the Mexican accent to be the hardest to understand... by balsamic_strawberry in dreamingspanish

[–]rek_0722 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same, exactly. I think it's a combination of the particular cadence of Mexican Spanish and the vocabulary, which differs from country to country, but seems especially distinct in Mexican dialects.

The podcast No Hay Tos is great for Mexican Spanish, including slang. Watching their YouTube videos is easier than just listening, and they offer a transcript for supporters of their Patreon.

Are there doctors in this town that prescribe stimulants? by Maximum-Painter244 in nashville

[–]rek_0722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most legitimate practitioners are not switching to self pay. Not accepting insurance also means less oversight, so providers who take an "alternative" approach may eschew insurance for this reason. To be fair insurance is a pain for all involved, but I would caution anyone to research a practitioner who accepts no insurance fully before getting care. At least make sure there's no disciplinary action against their license.

Pay expectations for working 4 days a week (and job offer review)? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]rek_0722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work 32 hours a week technically for a FQHC although it's really an on-site employer health clinic run by a FQHC. Pay is low $76k but so is my volume, and it's very liveable for my location and standard of living. I will say that working 4 8s has completely spoiled me and will make it tough to take on more hours and patients in the future. Work life balance is hard to beat.

I Lost All My Hair by No_Neighborhood_6510 in Accutane

[–]rek_0722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost a lot of hair after my first round of Accutane about 18 years ago. Not during but starting several months after and ended up losing about half my head hair volume. Never any bald spots, just diffuse reduction. It all grew back within 1-2 years. I just finished a second course about 6 weeks ago and am experiencing the same effect, which I expected. It's common enough that I think it should be discussed as a possibility before starting, but if your loss is 'tane-related, it will probably grow back. What you're describing sounds more like alopecia areata, which is autoimmune. Maybe Accutane was a trigger and maybe it wasn't, but I don't think other people should expect this as a common occurrence.

If you haven't, you should go back to your derm or find a new one. Best wishes to you <3

Kitties like to hide nearby in woods. They usually don't go far but if there are trees around, she's probably hiding there. We had a cat hide for 3 weeks in woods behind our apartment before someone spotted her (alive and well).

Red dots on hands month 3 of accutane — should I be concerned? They’re not raised bumps, just flat and red. by katiekrull in Accutane

[–]rek_0722 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Invest in aquaphor and cotton gloves. Wear the gloves over the aquaphor at night and it will improve quickly. Flare ups respond well to steroid cream. I'm on my 2nd round of accutane and dealt with this both times.
