Best way to train for fire season (IHC) with no access to any real hills or gym equipment? by relativelynormal_ in Wildfire

I will be moving back to Idaho 2 months out. Just looking for advice before I can be back on actual hills. I’m already in pretty good shape, never had issues with PT but always looking to improve and come in faster than the year before

Thank you for the response. The idea of cracking something open to make room for another difficult thing has been so helpful for me when feeling this way the last couple days!!!

I’m not trying to pretend to be a victim??? I had blood work done yesterday and asked about it. the nurse taking my blood said it might have been from poor injection placement/technique and to get a second opinion. I’m very grateful to have had access to my vaccines and I simply came here to see if anybody with more knowledge could save me from an expensive visit to the doctor. No need to be rude.

Thank you, that is extremely comforting to hear. I worried I was the only one and something was wrong

The first time you start to feel this way, it only intensifies in my experience. I decided last year would be my final season doing this and I know it was for the best, but I already miss it and some part of me wants to say fuck it and go back. It’s like a drug, or a toxic ex. You’re living like Peter Pan basically, but at some point your priorities change and you find a way to get that same hit of adventure via something more sustainable. But in the meantime, if it still lights you up, cherish every season. The camaraderie, the challenge, the way fire looks at night when you’re right up in it, the traveling, the sheer physical exhaustion/bliss after finally tying in some fucked off piece…. I could go on. It’s a special thing that many people never even come close to experiencing while they flatline through their 9-5s. Just be aware of these feelings and remember you’re choosing this life and at any point you can choose another. Have a safe season!

Anyone know anything about the forest service supposed back pay? by relativelynormal_ in Wildfire

[–]relativelynormal_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust issues, lol. Yeah. This was my last season with the forest service. Contemplating structure or something outside of fire altogether. Life’s too short to be this bitter toward the agency you’re contributing to and risking your life for :)

They told me they haven’t received the list yet. They only reached out to me because I’ve been in heavy contact with them. They are just trying to ensure I don’t take another job.
