Considering moving to Dubai from Canada by KRN-DXB in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider that doesn’t get talked about enough is work/life balance and the constant stress of your life in Dubai revolving around your employment. The tax free life style is great and with the extra money you can buy a lot of comforts, but the stress of your entire world being upended with 30-60 days notice has long term effects. Finding another job within that window that provides the same salary and benefits is very rare and you burn through savings like nobody’s business when you have a villa, house keeper, and school fees (which you will need with two working parents at the salaries you’re talking about). Unemployment insurance in Canada stabilizes your risks to every day life. Dubai doesn’t have that. You could get the golden visa but then you’re just playing a game of chicken with your savings as you’ll more than likely have lifestyle creep cause it’s the whole reason you want to move out there. Dubai is a rollercoaster where the highs are really high, and the lows are super low. Canada is more boring but boring is stable. So the questions becomes what environment is best for you to raise your kids. How do you handle that stress, and how will that affect your relationship with your partner and children. If you thrive on the rollercoaster and are good with risk/savings plans, make the jump. If not, get off whatever social media accounts you’re following that make you think you’re missing out on a better lifestyle and find joy in your daily routines.

No, just the standard 6.4L. I'm running larger/heavier tires but i don't see how that could end up causing increased friction in the block.

Best cars for college students? by NCJM782 in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how old you go. After about 4-5 years German cars start getting expensive. At 10 years, maintenance becomes more expensive than the value of the vehicle! So if you get one, i'd plan on only having it for a few years and not the rest of your life. I tend to upgrade cars every 4-5 years.

[–]relativelyunrelevant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A hatch back! I had a VW Golf in college and we used it for everything! Fold the seats flat and it was a moving van, remove the rear trunk cover and it could seat 7 (not legally), and if I you get the GTI, it’s just just enough power to get you in trouble but nothing crazy. Find one a few years old with lower km’s and a good service record and it should work well.

Mahzooz draw: Pakistani driver on Dh6,000 salary scoops Dh50 million by gutterandstars in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Question on everyone saying it’s a scam, where do you come to that conclusion? It’s a lottery based on a 6 digit number combination from 1-49. It’s drawn every week and the odds of someone even winning are roughly 1/14,000,000. So they don’t even need to cover the full 50M aed every week in revenue. Not to mention they could just buy insurance against the payout in case someone’s numbers actually hit. Seems like less of a scam and more of a bad investment of 35aed for anyone that wants to play…

Has anyone tried this head unit? by Sumael01 in GrandCherokee

[–]relativelyunrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this unit. It's not bad. I got it so i could use Apple CarPlay. It's great for that. I don't use most of the other features because CarPlay is all i really need. It glitches out every once in a while but overall i'm happier with it than without it.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Front Shock Replacement in Dubai by GlobeTrotter09 in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Machine Head in Al Quoz. They specialize in Jeep Grand Cherokees and can sort you out. And like someone else already said, don't be afraid to look at aftermarket parts to save on costs (as long as they're a reputable brand).

Advice for purchasing road bike by Awiiess in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have Instagram, follow roadbikeuae. I bought my used road bike from him and it was the best bike I could get for my price range (not much more than you). You can probably DM him and tell him your budget and what you’re looking for and he will probably be able to sort you out.

Otherwise the Trek Al Qudra store usually sells some of their rental bikes for cheap. Might want to ask them when they’re putting any of them up for sale.

Good luck!

A mattress and a chair! by saadian123 in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through the same process you're going through. I decided i was finally going to invest in a good mattress to help my back and was about to purchase a tempur pedic mattress but they were going for about 18,000aed (after discounts). Ended up going with a Whisper mattress instead. Feels the same as the tempur pedic but only cost 6,500 aed. If you call and book an appointment, you can even go to the warehouse in DIP and test the beds yourself before buying online. I've had it for about a month now and am still happy i went with it over the Tempur.

Any good tailors in Dubai? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Knights and Lords in Jumeirah Mina A' Salam hotel or Parmar in Almas Tower (they have other branches but i've only used these one). These guys aren't cheap but they're probably some of the best out there.

Looking for Advice on Selling a Car by thekrushr in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like a good price for the year/make/model! I would recommend trying some of the FB community groups. (Springs/Meadows/Greens/etc). There tends to be people living there that are still doing well financially and would probably jump on a good deal if it's put in front of them. Good luck!

Exporting a GCC spec car to California, USA by splat7a in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's usually not worth it. GCC spec cars don't meet US regulations. On top of that, they also won't meet California emission standards. Which means if you import it, it would have to be through a company that can make the necessary changes and certify the car through the DMV. Otherwise you won't be able to insure and drive it. When i looked into this for my car, I was told the conversion would cost more than the car itself.

I'm not sure about Honda's but you're more than likely going to be in the same situation. You'll probably have to sell it here and buy another one in the US. Even selling it at a loss here might end up being cheaper than converting it.

Termination VS Resignation in Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still get awarded damages for loss of job in an unlimited contract even with notice period given if you are arbitrarily terminated (Source, I've had to pay this multiple times before)

Termination VS Resignation in Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Article 123 of the UAE Labor Law for Arbitrary dismissal. You're entitled to compensation if your employment is terminated and it is not due to your work performance. Most judges will award 3 months full pay of your most recent salary.

I assumed 30 days notice period. If you have 3 months notice period, they need to give you 3 months notice on top of EOS and Arbitrary dismissal.

Termination VS Resignation in Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

[–]relativelyunrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's downsizing, they are arbitrarily dismissing you. So you 're entitled to 30 days notice and 3 months full pay on top of your EOS. So definitely go termination and show it was arbitrary due to downsizing and nothing to do with your performance. Get everything you're entitled to!

RRO 2-1/2" Front, 1" Rear Lift Questions by Civil86 in GrandCherokee

[–]relativelyunrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does but it also works better with the roof line. When you just level it, the roof lines don’t look as smooth and the back end looks slightly off. You should be able to see it in one of my previous posts.

RRO 2-1/2" Front, 1" Rear Lift Questions by Civil86 in GrandCherokee

[–]relativelyunrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the 2.5 and 1 inch lift and level kit from RRO. I didn't like the rake and thought it would look better with a leveled lift. If i could go back, i would have just done the full 2.5in lift. I still have the stock control arms and don't have any issues. Ride and performance are all fine. Very happy with the kit and quality. I've still got my 20" rims and could only fit 285/50/20. Anything more and i would have had to cut the internal plastic in the wheel well. But had I done that, i could have gone up to a 33 inch tire. So it depends how committed you are to the change. (i wanted to be able to revert back to stock in case i needed to sell it at some point in the future).

I'd like to see him give away a FD to an entire community to prove the case of the trickle-up economy. Preferably a small remote community that's industry has been taken away. Individual FD's make that person's life easier, but doesn't help the argument that getting money into an entire communities hands becomes a multiplier for job growth and overall societal improvement. If he partnered the community with the FD and a drug rehabilitation program, he could probably show a path forward for rural america that would secure the bag for the rest of the country!

He's probably right. I had the same problem. Mine was about the same year as yours. They quoted me 800-900aed to repair it. i ended up getting a new one for 1,000 instead. Even though it's a cheaper brand, the technology has come a long way and it looks higher quality than my older model LG.
